About the Role The Medical Librarian will deliver timely, comprehensive literature searches, including systematic reviews, and provide a full range of library services. They will offer core reference assistance, develop expert search strategies, and proactively build relationships with clinicians, allied health professionals, researchers, residents and fellows to support clinical and research excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive literature searches and assist with systematic reviews to support clinical and research needs.
Provide expert reference assistance and develop advanced search strategies.
Foster and sustain relationships with clinicians, allied health professionals, researchers and learners; participate on committees as required.
Deliver in‑person and virtual orientations and consultations, educating patrons on effective use of library tools.
Prepare and present in‑services and outreach programs on resources such as internet searching and evidence‑based practice.
Market and promote library services through presentations and email communication.
Design and teach evidence‑based practice for library customers and provide training to residents, fellows and other learners.
Participate in collection development, copy cataloging and special projects as needed.
Assist with technical troubleshooting and day‑to‑day library operations.
Engage in innovative activities within the Scripps Health library system and stay current with new developments in the medical library profession by participating on local, regional and national library associations.
Required Qualifications
Minimum of 1 year proficiency searching Medline and other health‑related bibliographic databases (e.g., Embase, CINAHL, Cochrane Library).
Master’s degree from an ALA‑accredited institution.
Strong interpersonal and customer service skills; ability to communicate effectively with a variety of individuals.
Excellent organization and independent judgment; ability to handle a fast‑paced environment and prioritize workload.
Advanced proficiency with personal computers, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and web‑based resources and tools.
Physical ability to bend, lift and push moderately heavy objects.
Preferred Qualifications
Certification by the Academy of Health Information Professionals (AHIP) and/or Systematic Review Services Specialization (SRSS).
Experience with HTML and CSS, and using library‑related tools such as Springshare LibGuides, Ebsco Full‑Text Finder, SFX, DOCLINE, OCLC, EZproxy.
