About the Role The Environments Designer is responsible for developing innovative exhibition environment solutions under the direction of the Executive Design Director (and other Directors) for permanent museum exhibitions, themed entertainment, physical and digital consumer experiences, and retail environments.
Environments Designers work collaboratively with all other departments as required to ensure exhibition experiences are integrated, on-brand, and on-strategy.
This experienced spatial problem-solver will assist in interpretive planning, design programming, visitor journey studies, space planning, interior design and interior architectural solutions and documentation for exhibition environments. Candidates will have an understanding of materials and fabrication processes. A strong design communicator with experience in sketching/drawing and/or representing design thinking through renderings/3D models, and documentation such as plans/elevations/schedules. Can help select and specify FF&E and is familiar with industry trends.
The ideal candidate will want to gain experience in leading projects. Projects will be focused primarily on the Las Vegas market, with opportunities to work on more global projects throughout the company’s expanding portfolio when needed.
Essential Duties
Develop innovative, immersive, and experiential exhibition environments design solutions which meet the strategic, experiential, functional, and budgetary scope for each project
Participate in all phases and aspects of a project, including research and project immersion, strategy, ideation, concept design, schematic design, design development, design intent documentation, and fabrication and installation oversight
Collaborate with the Communications Design & Digital Experience Design teams to develop integrated design solutions
Communicate design solutions through story-driven architectural visualization, drawings, sketches, 3D and physical models, and documentation
Create thoughtful, clear, and direct presentation documents that communicate design-thinking for the layperson and include our clients, vendors, and creative partners in the collaborative design process
Develop exhibition environments, including design programming, space planning, scenic environments design, fixture and millwork design, interactives and games, props and costumes display, artifacts and replica/cast displays, and many other design elements within the built environment
Develop design solutions for touring exhibitions that take into account modularity for multiple venue footprints and existing conditions that can be shipped both domestically and internationally, when needed
Communicate with venue Facilities and Operations personnel for clear and continuous project coordination
Adapt existing exhibitions to new venues, when needed
Specify materials, finishes, and make lighting recommendations
Help oversee the fabrication, production, and installation processes
Partner with the Production and Operations teams to ensure that creative is delivered on time and to the level of quality expected at Imagine Exhibitions
Prerequisite Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
5+ years experience in museum exhibition design, themed entertainment design, branded environments design, interior design, architecture, or stage/theatrical production design
A passion for experience design and the built environment
Connected to the creative industry—strong knowledge of industry trends and innovations in experience design
Understanding of design narrative and the ability to work within a strategic framework
Strong conceptual ideation and collaborative brainstorming abilities
Strong understanding of the design process and documentation from initial concepts through implementation
Understanding of construction and fabrication methods, materials and finishes, and lighting solutions
Ability to read architectural construction documents and shop drawings, and coordinate with consultants, drafting teams, engineers, and building officials for fire and life safety systems, structural, mechanical, electrical or data interface, as may be required
Hand drawing or sketching skills a plus
CAD and/or BIM modeling and documentation skills
3D modeling, rendering, and visualization techniques
Excellent communication, collaboration, and critical thinking skills
Ability to prioritize and concurrently work on multiple projects in a fast-paced studio environment
Ability to meet deadlines, without compromising accuracy, within the constraints of schedule and budget
Flexibility to work both collaboratively and independently on projects of all scales
Ability to coordinate with venue representatives for project requirements
Ability to be a resourceful designer that can create efficient yet effective design solutions

Adobe Creative Suite: Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign
Autodesk and AutoCAD
SketchUp, 3ds Max, Rhino, or comparable 3D modeling program for visualization
Enscape3D, V-ray, or comparable render engine

Ability to function in high-pressure situations.
Manual dexterity to operate a computer.

Travel domestically and/or internationally based on business need.
