What You'll Do; As the Assistant Controller for Sporting Life and Team Town Sports, you will play a key role in our finance team overseeing accounts receivable, treasury, prepaids, and fixed assets, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in our financial operations.

Within this role you'll support the month‑end close process, assist in preparing monthly and quarterly financial reports, and collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders across all banners.

Your keen eye for detail will be crucial as you review journal entries and reconciliations, ensuring proper accounting treatment to mitigate year‑end audit risks. Under the direction of the Controller, you’ll also prepare financial schedules to meet all company reporting requirements.

Review and approve journal entries and reconciliations for areas of responsibility to ensure accuracy of month end results.

Work closely with all departments to ensure that financial transactions are properly recorded.

Manage the internal and external financial reporting packages for all banners.

Lead monthly review of financials with finance team and departmental review of P&Ls with department leads across the business.

Lead annual external audits and prepare and/or review audit schedules as required during annual audit, working with external auditors on requirements.

Support the Controller with the preparation of the annual audited financial statements.

Continuous process re‑engineering of existing accounting processes and procedures to eliminate non‑value added activities, reduce processing time and eliminate manual intervention.

Drive for consistent process and reporting across all banners.

Establish and implement controls where required in areas of responsibility to ensure appropriate protection of company assets and accurate reporting of financials.

Perform quarterly control review, review and approve customer and vendor change logs on a weekly basis.

Support preparation of controls documentation across the business.

Work with the Finance manager to ensure proper cash application and reporting of cash related transactions.

Work with SFA to ensure accounting estimates are reasonable and prepared in accordance with financial reporting standards (IFRS)

Act as a financial business partner to stakeholders, utilizing enhanced communication skills to build relationships and acquire necessary information and data to achieve functional goals.

Complete quarterly reporting to parent company for all banners, with support from Finance Manager.

Review the bank reporting requirements to ensure complete and timely reporting.

Prepare and maintain the cash forecasting analysis.

Lead Finance initiatives and projects including new reporting tool compatible with D365.

What You'll Bring;

Degree in Accounting/Finance or the equivalent, 3+ years general accounting and management experience.

CPA designated.

Strong knowledge of GAAP/IFRS.

Advanced ERP knowledge, ideally within D365.

Strong experience with month‑end and year‑end close processes.

Strong attention to detail with a proven track record of meeting deadlines.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Advanced Excel user.

Power BI experience is an asset.

Retail experience is an asset.
