is seeking a skilled, compassionate and experienced
Physician Assistant
(PA) to join our busy and dynamic
Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery
team. As a PA, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care to patients undergoing cardiovascular and thoracic procedures. You will work closely with our surgeons, advanced practice providers, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to manage preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative care of cardiac patients including ICU, OR, and floor coverage.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with evaluating patients preoperatively, including history-taking, physical exams, and ordering diagnostic tests.
Assist in performing cardiovascular and thoracic surgical procedures under the supervision of the attending surgeon.
Provide postoperative care, including monitoring patient progress, managing complications, and educating patients and families.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement patient care plans.
Perform patient rounds in the ICU, step-down units, and on the floors.
Participate in patient education, including pre-surgical counseling and postoperative instructions.
Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).
Call includes 7 shifts per month and one weekend.
Maintain privileges at Morton Plant and St. Anthony's Hospitals.
Qualifications
Master’s degree in Physician Assistant studies.
Current PA licensure.
Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
BLS and ACLS certifications required; additional certifications in perioperative care or cardiovascular surgery are a plus.
Minimum of two years of experience as a Physician Assistant in a cardiovascular and/or thoracic surgery setting is preferred.
Strong clinical skills with the ability to assess, diagnose, and treat patients.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to manage stressful situations and prioritize patient care needs effectively.
