As an
Electrical Powertrain/Propulsion Engineer , you will be responsible for the design, development, testing, and implementation of propulsion systems of the train. This role involves working with advanced technologies to improve the efficiency, performance, and safety of propulsion systems. The Powertrain Engineer collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to ensure that propulsion systems meet the required specifications and standards.
HOW YOU CAN MAKE AN IMPACT Key Activities
Conceptual design and layout of the electrical drive systems in passenger rail vehicles (covering the following topics: power electronics, transformer, motor, energy storage, pantograph)
Design, development, and create and refine propulsion system designs using computer-aided design (CAD) software and other engineering tools.
Test, analyze, and conduct tests on propulsion systems to evaluate performance, reliability, and safety. Analyze test data to identify areas for improvement.
Calculations and simulations regarding energy consumption and trip duration of our vehicles.
Support with simulations for the preparation of offers and tenders and new project bids.
Stay updated with the latest advancements in propulsion technology and apply innovative solutions to enhance system performance.
Manage propulsion system projects from concept to completion, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to budget constraints.
Work closely with other engineers, technicians, and stakeholders to integrate propulsion systems with overall vehicle designs. Including software creation, installation planning, mechanical engineering, purchasing, etc.
Prepare detailed technical reports, specifications, and documentation for propulsion systems and related components.
Ensure all propulsion systems comply with industry standards, regulations, and safety requirements.
HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE
BS or MS degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or similar
3 - 5 years (level two) of relevant experience in railway, defense, or similar
Knowledge of, or interest, in electrical drive technology or the rail vehicle industry
Excellent communication and technical writing skills
Excellent problem-solving abilities with strong teamwork skills
Business fluent in English (German preferred)
Experience in electrical / mechanical design
Experience with schematic software, MS Office, PLM and ECN systems (e.g. E3, SmarTeam)
Experience with MATLAB is a plus
Willingness to travel for supplier visits and testing on vehicles
