Verdantas is seeking an Ecologist I for Summer 2026 at our Tampa East location. This opportunity is ideal for recent graduates or emerging professionals ready to transition from academic learning to meaningful, real‑world environmental work.
As an Ecologist I, you’ll join a collaborative team that values innovation, curiosity, and continuous growth. You’ll contribute to projects that protect and restore ecosystems, support sustainable development, and advance environmental solutions, while gaining hands‑on experience in fieldwork, data analysis, and ecological assessments.

What You’ll Do
Unrestricted mobility and physical strength to conduct fieldwork
Basic knowledge of natural habitats, plants and wildlife species occurring in Florida
Operate field vehicles/equipment in a safe and efficient manner
Follow written survey protocols and standard operating procedures
Adapt to and document field changes required by conditions encountered
Compile and assimilate field data for use in reports or other work products
Occasional overnight and/or weekend travel to remote field sites and operating field vehicles and equipment
Wetland vegetation monitoring
Wetland delineation and functional analyses (Uniform Mitigation Assessment Method [UMAM])
Participating in meetings with clients and regulatory agencies
Technical report preparation
Assisting in the development of project scopes and budgets
Perform NPDES (National Pollution Discharge Elimination System) inspections for SWPPP (Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan) compliance.
Perform installation/removal of erosion and sediment control systems such as silt fence and floating turbidity curtains.
Oversee installation/removal of erosion and sediment control systems such as silt fence and floating turbidity curtains.
Review activities and provide oversight on a variety of construction projects within the field of environmental permit compliance.
Coordinate with contractors and other field staff to complete installation/removal of sediment controls and other environmental constraints.
What You’ll Bring
Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Biology, or similar
A master’s degree is a plus
0‑2 years of relevant professional experience
Proficient in Microsoft computer applications
Working knowledge of Global Positioning Systems (GPS)/Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
Must possess a valid driver’s license
Must be able to pass a drug screen and background check
Must be able to carry up to 50 lbs. regularly and up to 80 lbs. occasionally with or without accommodation, sometimes over substantial distances
Salary Range:
60,000 - 65,000
