Job Overview The ISSO is responsible for maintaining an appropriate operational security posture for an information system and collaborates closely with the ISSM and ISO. The role requires detailed knowledge of security management, including physical/environmental protection, personnel security, incident handling, and security training and awareness. The ISSO works within Special Access Programs (SAPs), supporting DoD agencies such as HQ Air Force, OSD, and Military Compartments.
Responsibilities
Develop physical or logical topologies for a system
Assist the ISSM in meeting their duties and responsibilities
Prepare, review, and update authorization packages
Ensure approved procedures are in place for clearing, sanitizing, and destroying hardware and media
Notify ISSM of changes that may affect the authorization determination of information systems
Conduct periodic reviews of information systems to ensure compliance with the security authorization package
Coordinate changes to hardware, software, or firmware with ISSM and AO/DAO prior to implementation
Monitor system recovery processes to ensure security features and procedures are restored and functioning correctly
Maintain current and accessible IS security–related documentation for authorized individuals
Collect, review, and document audit records, including any anomalies
Attend required technical and security training (e.g., operating system, networking, security management)
Execute the cyber security portion of self‑inspection and review all system assessment plans
Identify cyber security vulnerabilities and assist with implementing countermeasures
Prepare reports on the status of security safeguards applied to computer systems
Perform ISSO duties for in‑house and external customers
Conduct continuous monitoring activities for authorization boundaries under your preview
Assist DoD, National Agency, and Contractor organizations with all RMF efforts
Perform additional duties as assigned
Experience Requirements
5-7 years of related experience
Prior performance in roles such as System or Network Administrator or ISSO
Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience (4 years)
Certification Requirements
Must meet position and certification requirements outlined in DoD Directive 8570.01‑M for Information Assurance Technician Level II or Information Assurance Manager II within 6 months of hire
Security Clearance Requirements
Current Top Secret Clearance with SCI Eligibility
Eligibility for access to Special Access Program Information
Willingness to submit to a Counterintelligence polygraph
Other Requirements
Reports to a physical location that occasionally requires traversal between buildings
May require sedentary work at least 50% of the time
Must be able to regularly lift up to 50 lbs
Ability to manage stress with a high degree of maturity and professionalism
Demonstrated critical thinking and leadership skills with the ability to work well with others
Effective verbal and written communication skills
All Level I & Level II positions – candidate should possess some SAP experience
All Level III positions – candidate should possess 2+ years of SAP experience
The anticipated compensation range for this position is $98,345 - $133,055, based on Contract Wage Determination, education, certifications, related work experience, and other factors.
