Executive Researcher - Accounting & Finance
A growing, entrepreneurial commercial bank with multi‑state operations is seeking an experienced
Assistant Controller (Vice President level)
to join its expanding Finance team in
Irvine, California . This role reports directly to the Controller and plays a key role in managing accounting operations, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance across the Bank and its subsidiaries.
About the Opportunity
This is a hands‑on leadership role within a collaborative, fast‑paced environment. The Assistant Controller will work closely with senior management, including the CFO and Controller, to drive accuracy, efficiency, and strong internal controls across the accounting function. The position offers direct exposure to executive leadership and the opportunity to help shape the finance infrastructure of a growing institution.
Key Responsibilities
Support the Controller in all aspects of accounting operations and the month‑end close process.
Review and consolidate subsidiary general ledgers and prepare financial analysis and variance reports.
Oversee journal entries, account reconciliations, and expense management.
Prepare and review management, regulatory, and external reports, including FR Y-9C and FR Y-9LP.
Maintain and enhance internal controls over financial reporting in accordance with GAAP and regulatory standards.
Coordinate with auditors and regulators during examinations and audits.
Collaborate cross‑functionally with Treasury, FP&A, and Risk on financial projects and process improvements.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA strongly preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within banking or financial services.
Strong understanding of GAAP, regulatory reporting, and internal controls.
Proven ability to manage complex consolidations and multi‑entity structures.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to partner effectively with senior leadership.
