As a Senior Data Engineer at The Guestbook, you’ll design and scale the data and AI systems that power our platform’s intelligence layer — from rewards personalization to automated insights for hotel partners. You’ll build reliable data pipelines while helping shape the next generation of AI-powered travel experiences using large language models (LLMs) and generative AI.

We’re a small, agile team that values creativity, curiosity, and shipping impactful work fast. You’ll have the opportunity to own your projects end-to-end — from designing data systems to integrating AI-driven solutions into our production environment.

If you’re excited about applying machine learning and generative AI to real-world hospitality and e-commerce challenges, this is the ideal role for you.

What You’ll Be Doing

Design, build, and maintain data pipelines that support analytics, machine learning, and AI-driven product features.

Collaborate across Product, Marketing, and Engineering to identify opportunities to apply generative AI and predictive models to business problems.

Develop and deploy LLM‑based applications, such as:

Personalized travel recommendations and deals

Automated guest communications and support

Fine‑tune and evaluate models using internal and open datasets (e.g., OpenAI, Hugging Face, Anthropic, Vertex AI, or similar platforms).

Build data systems and APIs that make LLM outputs reliable, auditable, and scalable.

Partner with the team to ensure data governance, privacy, and model performance are maintained at high standards.

Stay current on emerging tools and frameworks in AI engineering, vector databases, prompt optimization, and model monitoring.

What You’ll Bring to The Guestbook

3+ years of professional experience as a data engineer, ML engineer, or related software role.

Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field — or equivalent practical experience.

Strong proficiency in Python, SQL, and modern ETL/ELT frameworks (dbt, Dagster, Airflow, Fivetran).

Deep understanding of cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and data warehousing (BigQuery, Snowflake, or Redshift).

Demonstrated experience working with machine learning models and LLMs, including fine‑tuning, API integration, and prompt design.

Familiarity with vector databases (Pinecone, Weaviate, FAISS) and embedding‑based retrieval techniques.

Strong communication skills and the ability to translate AI capabilities into business value.

Nice to Haves

Experience building AI‑powered applications using frameworks like LangChain, LlamaIndex, or OpenAI’s function‑calling APIs.

Knowledge of retrieval‑augmented generation (RAG) systems and semantic search architecture.

Experience deploying ML and LLM pipelines in production (Vertex AI, AWS SageMaker, or similar).

Familiarity with front‑end frameworks (React, Next.js) for integrating AI features into web products.

Contributions to open‑source AI or data engineering projects.

Background in hospitality, travel tech, or e‑commerce data systems.
