Microelectronics/Principal Microelectronics Wet Etch Sustaining Eng - 3rd Shift - R10213073 Northrop Grumman is seeking a third‑shift Microelectronics Wet Etch Sustaining Engineer (or Principal) to join the Wet Etch and Surface Prep Group at the Advanced Technology Lab (ATL) near Baltimore, MD. This role involves managing wet etch processing tools, developing new semiconductor processes, and supporting production of silicon‑based devices used in a variety of radar and space systems.

Relocation assistance may be available. Clearance type: Secret. Travel: 10% of the time.

Work schedule: 3rd shift Monday–Friday, 11 pm – 8 am, with training on first shift (7:30 am – 5 pm).

Core responsibilities include:

Monitoring and maintaining wet etch processing tools and specifications.

Leading continuous improvement initiatives and tool installation projects.

Training technicians and conducting root‑cause analysis investigations.

Supporting research, design, and development of new micro‑electronic, optoelectronic, MEMS and sensor manufacturing processes using silicon materials.

Collaborating with operations, equipment engineering, process integration, and program management to meet production goals.

Basic Qualifications For Microelectronics Wet Etch Sustaining Engineer

Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Electrical, Materials Engineering or related discipline plus 2 years of semiconductor fabrication experience, or a Master’s degree with no experience.

Lab or cleanroom experience.

Knowledge of semiconductor processing, wet chemical processes, and equipment troubleshooting.

Experience with characterization techniques relevant to wet process engineering.

Understanding of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and associated tools.

Structured problem‑solving methodology for troubleshooting equipment and process issues.

MS Office proficiency.

Ability to work 100 % of the time in a Class 100 cleanroom and meet physical/PPE requirements.

Availability for 3rd shift schedule.

U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a Secret clearance.

For Principal Microelectronics Wet Etch Sustaining Engineer (additional experience required)

Bachelor’s degree plus 5+ years of semiconductor fabrication experience (3+ with a Master’s, 1+ with a Ph.D.).

All other qualifications listed above.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with both wet etch and electroplating tools, processes, and troubleshooting.

Existing Secret clearance.

Primary salary range: $85,400 – $128,000. Secondary range: $105,400 – $158,000. Overtime, shift differential, and discretionary bonuses may apply. Benefits include health insurance, life and disability insurance, savings plan, paid holidays, and paid time off.
