Public Defender
Overview
The Law Offices of the Public Defender is seeking an Attorney (Public Defender, Level 2) to provide professional legal services for juvenile and adult indigent clients in litigation, appeal, counsel, research and analysis. This position is located in the Santa Fe, NM area.
Essential Functions
Handle a variety of cases, including misdemeanor, juvenile, youthful offender or appellate cases.
Assist higher‑level attorneys with complex cases.
Advise and counsel clients regarding case strategy and possible outcomes.
Work under the direction, guidance and supervision of supervisors and managers.
Conduct plea bargaining with district attorneys and other parties when appropriate.
Attend seminars, training classes and review current professional literature.
Draft and review legal documents, reports and other correspondence.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Other Duties Additional duties may be assigned as needed. Responsibilities are subject to change without notice.
Minimum Qualifications
License to practice law in New Mexico or eligibility for a limited license issued by the New Mexico Supreme Court.
Valid driver’s license.
FLSA exempt status.
Compliance with the collective bargaining agreement.
Eligibility for Geographic Pay Differential – see LOPD website for details.

Salary Base salary range: $65,416.00 – $120,536.00 per year.
