As a Banking Service Professional, the Personal Banker will provide effective support of sales and service activities within various branches on a rotating basis, developing new business by educating existing and potential clients and exemplifying Valley’s quality‑service standards.
The role includes providing a variety of banking solutions by analyzing needs, recommending solutions, and selling bank products and services to existing and potential clients within the division.
Perform routine banking transactions (teller and platform), while supporting the Market Manager in achieving quality service and complying with operational procedures at the assigned location.
Responsibilities
Provide exceptional customer service in accordance with Valley’s mission statement and engage customers with friendly, professional service.
Possess knowledge of all bank products and services and educate customers on them; cross‑sell various products and services.
Present a confident and professional demeanor to establish trust and gain knowledge from the customer; analyze needs and recommend appropriate products and services.
Travel to various branch locations to provide coverage as directed by the District Operations Manager, ensuring high levels of customer service within the branch network.
Meet with customers to analyze financial needs, maximize sales opportunities, and offer all bank products; assist with other service needs, open new accounts (checking, savings, CD, IRAs), discuss/sell loan products, and promote online and mobile banking.
Meet customer expectations and achieve service‑quality standards; participate in the sales referral process and coach/mentor branch staff members.
Perform all customer transactions using appropriate technology to provide services efficiently; maintain and balance a cash box; utilize Teller Scanning Equipment, Cash Recycling/Dispensing machines, and support customers with Coin Machines.
Act as Vault Teller to ensure adequate branch cash for daily transactions by assisting staff in ordering and shipping currency and controlling cash distribution.
Report all significant matters, issues, and unusual customer activity to the Manager while maintaining personal knowledge of compliance and regulatory requirements.
Maintain knowledge and compliance with the Bank’s Code of Conduct and all policies and procedures.
Required Skills
Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to write correspondence and demonstrate products accurately.
Excellent interpersonal/customer‑service skills, attentiveness, information retention, tact, and diplomacy.
Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills to resolve complex customer issues.
Adaptability to different staff and customers in constantly varying branches while performing the same functions.
Sound judgement in on‑the‑spot customer transactions; weigh satisfaction against bank exposure to loss or fraud.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or scheduled form.
Deep understanding of retail banking and strong customer‑service skills to engage customers regarding products and services.
Detail‑oriented, highly organized, and accurate.
Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
Proficient computer skills.
Required Experience
High School Diploma or GED and 1 year of business‑services experience in branch banking and knowledge of branch operations or successful completion of a Valley Retail training program.
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, finance, economics, or a related field is preferred.
FIS/IBS (Integrated Banking Solutions) experience preferred.
