Overview

A well‑established organization is looking for a Senior Payroll Accountant to join its corporate accounting team. This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of payroll‑related accounting, including bonus and commission accruals, benefits reconciliations, and payroll journal entries across a multi‑state workforce. The ideal candidate brings a strong mix of technical accounting, payroll systems knowledge, and analytical capability, with the ability to collaborate cross‑functionally with HR and finance.

This position is best suited for a proactive professional who enjoys both detail‑oriented reconciliation work and process improvement in a high‑volume, fast‑paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

Payroll Accounting:

Prepare and post payroll‑related journal entries, ensuring all wage, tax, and benefits activity is accurately reflected in the general ledger.

Commissions & Bonuses:

Calculate, record, and reconcile employee commission and bonus accruals in accordance with company policies and reporting deadlines.

Benefits Reconciliation:

Analyze and reconcile employee benefit deductions, employer contributions, and related accruals to ensure accuracy across payroll and GL systems.

General Ledger Management:

Support month‑end close by reconciling payroll accounts, preparing accruals, and validating variances between payroll and accounting data.

Process Improvement:

Partner with Payroll and HR to streamline workflows, strengthen internal controls, and enhance the accuracy and efficiency of payroll accounting processes.

Reporting:

Generate and analyze payroll and benefits reports for management review, providing insights and recommendations based on data trends.

Compliance & Audit Support:

Maintain documentation for audit readiness and ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable labor and tax regulations.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.

4+ years of payroll accounting or general ledger experience within a corporate environment.

Solid understanding of payroll accounting principles, accruals, and reconciliations.

Advanced Excel skills, including PivotTables, VLOOKUP, and complex formulas.

Familiarity with large ERP and payroll systems.

Strong attention to detail, analytical mindset, and ability to meet tight deadlines.

Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively across teams.
