Corps Staff Accountant (DHQ)

Salary Range:

Starting at $53,000.00

Location:

Indianapolis, IN

Job Objective The Staff Accountant is responsible for all accounting functions for assigned Corps or Unit(s) and for assisting with other accounting and finance special projects as needed.

Essential Functions

Prepare accounting transactions as required to maintain the general ledger, including journal entries, accounts receivable, payables, billing, and monthly reconciliations.

Ensure proper classification, coding, and functionalization of transactions.

Review payable and receivable transactions and assist accounting clerks with necessary information.

Prepare monthly general ledger account reconciliations, monthly and annual financial statements, cash flows and other ad hoc reports as needed.

Assist in monitoring Corps or Unit(s) cash balance, providing cash balance reports to Officers.

Prepare bank reconciliations and review reconciliations for other unassigned Corps or Unit(s).

Assist Officers in budget preparation and enter approved budget into accounting system.

Prepare pro forma 990 Return of Organization Exempt From Tax as needed.

Provide information for grant application and monitor receipt of funds to ensure payments and invoicing compliance.

Prepare work papers and schedules for internal and external auditors; assist with answering audit questions.

Provide backup to other staff accountants when needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Accounting degree required. Four-year degree in accounting preferred.

Background Checks:

Position requires a background check to be completed; all results will be reviewed.

Experience:

One year experience processing accounts payable, receivables, and bank reconciliations. Experience in not-for-profit accounting a plus.

Skills / Abilities

Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Proficiency with PC and Microsoft Office applications.

Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Self‑motivated with strong organization skills.

Ability to help direct the work of others in the department.

Supervisory Responsibility N/A

Physical Requirements Must possess good speaking, hearing, and visual ability with excellent manual dexterity. Able to lift, pull, and push materials up to 25 pounds. Requires bending, squatting, and walking; may stand for extended periods.

Travel N/A

Working Conditions Work performed in a typical office environment. Full‑time position; may require some weekend and evening work.
