Salary Range:
$33,540 – $40,962 per annum
Primary Purpose This position is responsible for the security at the Ackland Art Museum, ensuring the protection of building assets, monitoring access, and responding to incidents.
Responsibilities
Conduct regular patrols of the facility's interior and exterior, ensuring all doors and windows remain secure.
Lock and unlock doors in accordance with post orders.
Verify identification of suspicious persons and provide escorts to employees and guests.
Assist with disabled vehicles, hazards, power outages, and heating/cooling issues, reporting incidents to UNC Dispatch.
Maintain accurate daily reports of tasks, incidents, and any security concerns.
Respond to calls for entry or emergency situations and coordinate with other campus security personnel.
Maintain proper uniform and arrive on time for all scheduled shifts, including rotating and on‑call assignments.
Prepare for adverse weather and emergency events that may affect campus operations.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent, with proven competency for security duties.
Valid North Carolina driver’s license (some positions may require).
Knowledge of security and enforcement practices.
Ability to make judgments in unique scenarios and follow department policies.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior law‑enforcement or campus security experience.
Familiarity with the UNC–Chapel Hill campus.
Physical & Mental Requirements
Patrol buildings on foot, climb stairs, and operate independently.
Lift or move up to 40 lbs.
Work Schedule Full‑time (40 hrs/week). Rotating schedule with various day, evening, night, on‑call and weekend shifts. Exact shift times vary weekly.
Campus Security Authority Responsibilities Report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training required by the Clery Act.
