University Coordinator/Student Teacher Supervisor
Position Summary
Central Michigan University’s Office of Educator Preparation Programs seeks applicants for University Coordinator/Student Teacher Supervisor, who will provide field supervision for Spring 2026 Teacher Candidates. University Coordinators represent Central Michigan University as the coordinator of the student teaching clinical experience in the classrooms and schools in one of five student teaching centers across Michigan. They support teacher candidates in the field through observations and coaching, communicate with PK‑12 partners regarding clinical fieldwork requirements and policies, and support the academic programs of the University. University Coordinators are appointed on a semester‑by‑semester basis and will work with up to 11 teacher candidates per semester.
Duties and Responsibilities
Participate in appropriate coordinator meetings, departmental professional development activities, and online trainings.
Follow the master syllabus for EDU 458 / SPE 456 / SPE 558 and utilize allotted cohort time for collaboration and intervention related to teacher candidate success.
Support candidates’ growth in the field through observations; help candidates assess classroom situations and troubleshoot problems in the field.
Complete all required paperwork, i.e., surveys, observations, and evaluations by the given deadlines.
Work with the Associate Director for Clinical Experiences or designee to secure placements, process initial scheduling, documentation, and placement materials for candidates, cooperating teachers, and clinical faculty.
Project a positive representation of the department, college and university and act as a liaison between CMU and PK‑12 school district stakeholders.
Maintain a high level of awareness of schools’ unique policies and exemplify professional courtesy while representing CMU on‑site by honoring district procedures and minimizing disturbances.
Maintain up to date knowledge of school legislation, current practices, and the needs of P‑12 students served in the partnership schools.
Communicate important information and support the policies of the Office of Educator Preparation Programs and CMU with candidates and cooperating teachers.
Confer with candidates, cooperating teachers, clinical faculty, and the Associate Director for Clinical Experiences regarding candidates’ performance.
Project a positive image and embody the CMU Leadership Standards.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Master’s degree in education or a related field.
Valid teaching certificate.
Five years of teaching or administrative experience in the PK‑12 school structure.
Demonstrated dispositions and ability to mentor adult learners.
Experience with teacher evaluation systems and providing feedback for improvement.
Exceptionally strong communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
Capacity to plan, establish priorities, and handle multiple tasks and projects within a set timeline.
Strong technology skills; ability to learn and use new software systems.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree with additional studies in an education‑related field.
Ten years of PK‑12 teaching or administrative experience.
