Position Summary
This is a trainee position for uncertified individuals interested in a career in law enforcement with the Southern Ute Indian Tribe. The trainee will be required to attend and successfully complete an approved basic police‑training course. Upon completion of the required trainings and certifications, the incumbent will assume the position of Patrol Officer. This position is a grade N11; salary is $23.63/hour.

Education and Experience
Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
Must be at least 21 years of age at date of hire.
Within 1 year of service the employee must successfully complete the approved basic police‑training course conducted at the United States Indian Police Academy or a similar accredited police academy substantially meeting or exceeding the level of training provided by the Indian Police Academy.
Must be able to qualify with a handgun prior to certification as a patrol officer and maintain this qualification throughout employment.
Must be able to pass a comprehensive Law Enforcement background investigation to obtain the Special Law Enforcement Commission (SLEC) before completion of the Trainee program.
Must be able to obtain and maintain Federal Deputy Special Officer Commission Card and Tribal Police Commission card upon completion of the approved basic police‑training course and the FTO program.
Must maintain a telephone for emergency calls.
Must have a valid Driver’s License for state of residency and be insurable under the Tribal vehicle insurance policy.
Must never have been convicted of a felony or a crime of misdemeanor domestic violence in State, Tribal or Federal court. Must not have been convicted of or placed on a deferred judgment for any misdemeanor crime within 1 year prior to appointment. Must not have a restraining order or order of protection.
Must successfully pass a pre‑employment medical exam and annually thereafter.
Must successfully pass a timed Police Officer Trainee Selection Test prior to being selected to participate in the interview process. The test will consist of mathematics, reading comprehension, grammar, and incident report writing.
Must successfully pass a pre‑employment timed Physical Agility test and, if hired, annually thereafter. The test will consist of a serpentine run, 150 lb. body drag, 3‑ft barrier vault, bed search, stair climbs, 5‑ft barrier up & over, tunnel crawl, simulated door pull and a lift & carry.
Must pass a psychological evaluation prior to employment.
Must be of excellent character and reputation and pass a thorough background check including fingerprint check, and pre‑employment drug testing.
