Salary: $50-60 per hour Status: Part Time PREP Research Associate

This position is part of the National Institute of Standards (NIST) Professional Research Experience (PREP) program. NIST recognizes that its research staff may wish to collaborate with researchers at academic institutions on specific projects of mutual interest, thus requires that such institutions must be the recipient of a PREP award. The PREP program requires staff from a wide range of backgrounds to work on scientific research in many areas. Employees in this position will perform technical work that underpins the scientific research of the collaboration. Overview

The work will entail: This position will entail working with NIST staff on the Diffraction Metrology and Standards Program, which aims to develop world-leading instrumentation for X-ray diffraction and produce a suite of Standard Reference Materials for end users to calibrate their equipment and measurements with. Responsibilities

Maintenance, operation, and upgrades of NIST XRD equipment Assistance with measurements and analysis related to certification of SRMs Qualifications

Ph.D. in Physics or similar field Expertise with LabView and Python Strong track record of building and troubleshooting custom lab equipment Ability to work independently and as part of a team Specialized experience with x-ray sources, optics, and detectors a plus (but not required) Application Instructions
