Assistant Director of Health Professions Advising

Brief Position Overview This position will advise current and prospective undergraduate and graduate students interested in applying to a variety of health professions programs, such as medical school, dental school, and PA school.
Duties and Responsibilities
Pre-professional advising for undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, and graduate students interested in pursuing various health professions.
Help coordinate advising as well as all advising-related outreach and communications in assigned units.
Promote best practices of advising services in assigned units.
Implement and assist with campus-wide advising initiatives and assessment.
Assist the Director in facilitating and managing the multi-year process of students’ applications to health professions schools (personal statement and application writing, review, and feedback, mock interviews, committee letters and letter packets).
Programming support for students (entrance exam study groups, application help workshops, professional development, and group advising sessions).
Supervise, coordinate, and train peer advisors and mentors.
Assist Director in collecting and organizing office data for year-end reports and accreditation review of the office.
Communicating with prospective students and families about Health Professions Advising at MSU Friday’s, prospective student meetings, and other events such as Orientation.
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
Bachelor’s degree and relevant experience in student advising, mentoring, coaching OR career development OR student supervision and/or student services.
Demonstrated knowledge of higher education offices and resources that support student success
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Willingness to work on a schedule that may include occasional evening and weekend commitments.
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
Supervisory experience, training, and/or mentoring.
Experience working with enrollment and degree auditing software, such as DegreeWorks, CatCourse, Banner, MyInfo and/or relational database.
Experience in health professions advising (formal or informal).
