Job Description / Essential Elements:

SCHOOL BUS DRIVER TRAINER

DEFINITION

Under supervision, perform driver training and evaluation of school bus drivers; perform general clerical tasks, and perform related duties as required.

TYPICAL DUTIES

1. Coordinate and instruct all phases of bus driver training and retraining, including behind-the-wheel instruction of bus drivers; 2. Counsel new drivers on proper bus driving techniques and student conduct instruction, including emergency evacuation procedures; 3. Review bus drivers' driving performance periodically to assure that safe and proper procedures are followed in accordance with District and State transportation regulations; 4. Prepare and present safety and in-service programs; 5. Make recommendations on routing of buses and assignment of drivers as related to established safety procedures; 6. Evaluate accident reports; recommend and implement correction action; 7. Drive a bus over a designated route as assigned in accordance with time schedules; and 8. Relay instructions to bus drivers as directed by supervisor.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

1. Knowledge of safe driving practices, including provisions of the California Motor Vehicle Code and the Education Code applicable to the operation of vehicles in the transportation of students; 2. Knowledge of scheduling and routing of school buses; 3. Ability to provide in-service training; 4. Ability to evaluate proper driving techniques; 5. Ability to prepare, organize, and maintain records and reports; 6. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions; 7. Ability to do light typing; and 8. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination equivalent to:

1. Graduation from high school; and 2. Three years of school bus driving experience.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATES REQUIRED

1. Possession of a valid State of California Class B-P Driver's License; 2. Possession of a valid California "School Bus Driver Training Instructor" Certificate, or be eligible to take the course; 3. Possession of a valid California Highway Patrol School Bus Driver's Certificate; 4. Possession of a valid First Aide Certificate; and 5. Possession of a valid Medical Certificate.

New three-year collective bargaining agreement; Salary schedule beginning 7.1.25 will include a 2% salary schedule increase and a 2% off-schedule payment at year-end pending ratification

2026-2027: Salary schedule increase of 60% of the statutory funded COLA, plus any funded ongoing augmentations as provided in the State Budget Act; 2% off-schedule payment at year-end pending ratification

2027-2028: Salary schedule increase of 50% of the statutory funded COLA, plus any funded ongoing augmentations as provided in the State Budget Act; 2% off-schedule payment at year-end pending ratification
