Closing Date: Open Until Filled SUMMARY: Drives a school bus to transport students over a specified route according to a time schedule, complying with all traffic regulations. Drives a school bus to transport students to and from field trips and activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (This list of essential duties is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by positions in this class. Drives a school bus to transport students over specified route according to time schedule. Drives a school bus to transport students to and from field trips and activities. Drives a school bus safely and professionally. Performs and properly completes daily pre-trip inspections. Observes all mandatory safety regulations. Reports all potential safety hazards immediately to the Transportation Director. Complies with all traffic ordinances and Idaho State laws. Complies with guidelines set forth in the Idaho State Department of Education's School Bus Driver Manual and the Xavier Charter School District Policy and Procedure Manual. Participates in on-site training. Shows proficiency in handling and maneuvering a school bus. Maintains orderly conduct/behavior on the bus. Reports student/passenger discipline to the proper authority. Assists in the administration of basic first aid.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to obtain an Idaho Commercial Driver's License with Passenger and School Bus endorsements. Ability to pass a physical examination, a drug test, and State skill/written tests. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to read and interpret maps, documents, and instructions, furnished in a variety of formats not limited to safety rules and regulations, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively communicate in one-on-one and small group situations to parents, students, and other employees of the district.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables. Ability to interpret and implement a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to work in a friendly manner and to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community. Skill to use a personal computer. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all District requirements, Board of Education policies, and applicable State and Federal laws.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee constantly works inside a vehicle (more than 80% of the time), such as driving the school bus to transport students. Occasionally works outdoors (less than 20% of the time), such as in inspecting, cleaning, or walking to/from school buses. Frequently maintains a stationary position, such as while driving a school bus. Constantly repeats motions, such as while turning the steering wheel of a school bus, observing traffic, and accelerating/braking. Frequently moves about, such as assisting students in boarding/deboarding school buses or inspecting/cleaning school buses. Frequently operates a computer, computer printer, copy machine, phone, fax machine, or other related office equipment. Frequently communicates using various methods and tools, such as computers, paper, pens, radio, etc. Frequently transport items up to 20 pounds, such as map books and various transportation required items. Constantly communicates with students during the school transportation. Must be able to communicate rules and instructions effectively. Frequently communicates with parents and employees of the district. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. Constantly observes while driving a school bus, such as traffic signals and signs, traffic, road conditions and hazards, etc. Frequently positions self to pick up trash or student materials off of the floor of the school bus. Frequently reaches forward, such as steering a school bus. Frequently ascends/descends stairs, step stools, or ladders, such as in boarding/deboarding or cleaning a school bus. Occasionally lifts, pushes, and/or moves up to 90 pounds, such as students or student equipment. Generally, the noise in the work environment is moderate to loud. Indoor (including inside vehicle) exposures include student noise and music, possible communicable diseases, or unruly students. Outdoor exposures include variable temperatures and weather conditions, dust, pesticides, exhaust fumes, and smoke (seasonally).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous driving experience preferred. Must currently possess or be able to obtain an Idaho Commercial Driver's License with Passenger and School Bus endorsements; which includes having a good driving record and being able to pass a physical examination, a drug test, and State Skill/Written Tests. Must be able to read and understand maps.
