SUMMARY OF POSITION: A Duneland School Corporation bus driver is required to operate all school vehicles in a safe and lawful manner. This position has a highly responsible role in transporting and dealing with students and staff on a regular basis. Bus drivers interact with individuals both inside and outside of the corporation and therefore, must have the ability to present a professional and organized image at all times.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Prior to becoming a Duneland School Corporation bus driver, a valid commercial drivers' license (CDL) is required. This license must be authorized by the State of Indiana. The following endorsements of said CDL are required:

Passenger Endorsement School Bus Endorsement Air Brake Endorsement PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Respond to requests of information and services in a prompt, efficient and friendly manner. Provide exceptional level of customer service to all students, community members, teachers, co-workers and other staff members (These employees must be assured their needs are met in a professional, friendly and timely manner.) Observe safety and security procedures Uses equipment and materials properly Must establish and maintain student discipline in a firm but respectful manner Transportation Department employees are required to attend all in-service training Bus drivers must accept all delegated authority Perform all other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS AND ABILITIES Demonstrate interpersonal skills necessary to deal tactfully and effectively with persons at all levels in order to develop and maintain productive relationships both inside and outside the corporation Ability to learn new skills quickly and assimilate into daily work Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality both inside and outside the corporation Ability to work independently and in a team environment Ability to multi-task with attention to detail Proficient in the use of all Transportation Department equipment Demonstrate d organizational and time management skills Recognize, analyze and offer solutions to problem situations related to daily work Ability to remain calm and professional during times of high stress Is of good moral character Does not use intoxicating liquor during school hours Does not use intoxicating liquor to excess at any time Is not addicted to any narcotic drug Is at least twenty-one (21) years of age SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

(includes equipment, hours, physical demands) A bus driver is expected to conserve corporation resources and maintain a clean sanitary work environment for students and co-workers whether it is in a Duneland School Corporation vehicle or in any Duneland School Corporation location.

Work Environment:

This position typically works in a school bus setting with a controlled temperature environment. Occasional exposure to inclement weather conditions may occur depending upon assignments.

Equipment:

This position is required to maintain a working knowledge of all transportation vehicles and a basic knowledge of operating computers, printers, telephone systems, and copiers is also required.

Hours:

This position is typically expected to work an average of 4 to 6 hours per school day. Summer hours will be adjusted as authorized by the Superintendent to assure adequate coverage throughout the summer school period. Evening or weekend activities may be scheduled as necessary. This position may require occasional travel to other states and communities.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by all Duneland School Corporation bus drivers to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear. The employee is required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

In Addition:

Duneland School Corporation bus drivers must obtain a Certificate of Completion of a physical examination confirming the the driver possesses the physical characteristics required in IC 20-9.1-3.1 Section 1 Subsection 7 which are as follows: a. Sufficient physical ability to be a school bus driver, as determined by the State School BUs Committee b. Possession and full normal use of both hands, both arms, both feet, both legs, both eyes and both ears c. Freedom from a communicable disease that: 1. May be transmitted through airborne ot droplet means 2. Requires isolation of the infected person d. Freedom from any mental, nervous, organic, or functional disease, which might impair the person's ability to properly operate a school bus 2. Pass a pre-employment and random drug test(s) 3. Meet all requirements of law and administrative agencies governing the qualification and performance of Indiana school bus drivers 4. Must demonstrate the ability to exit the bus from a seat belted position in the driver's seat and exiting from the rearmost emergency door 5. Must demonstrate quick reaction time between accelerator and service break (in a seat belted position driver shall with the right foot, alternately depress the accelerator and service brake ten times in ten seconds or less 6. Must demonstrate the ability to climb and descend the bus service door steps in a forward facing position two times without stopping 7. Must demonstrate the ability to open and close the bus service door two times without stopping from a seat belted position 8. Must demonstrate the ability to operate one handed control on each side of the steering wheel while the bus is in a safe forward motion
