The Kirtland Board of Education has discretion, in its sole judgment, to place drivers on the salary schedule in accordance with the driver's prior school bus driving experience. Hourly rate:
$20.62 to $27.26 an hour
Each contracted spare bus driver shall be contracted to work for five (5) hours per workday. If any contracted spare bus driver works in excess of five (5) hours on any workday, he or she shall document such excess time on a timesheet, which such excess time shall be paid at the regular driving rate or the sit time rate, as applicable.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent. A valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with a school bus endorsement and evidence of a good driving record. Hold a school bus driver certificate signed by the Superintendent. Satisfactory completion of pre-employment driver's training program, basic and advanced bus driver's education programs. Attainment of legal age as defined in the current Ohio Revised Code. Physically qualified as defined in the current Ohio Revised Code. An annual driver's records check as defined in the current Ohio Revised Code (Rule: 3301-83-07). Evidence of a clear record as determined by the Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation (BCII) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Subject to random drug testing. Physical and Mental Abilities Required:
Ability to lift, carry, or move equipment or supplies weighing up to fifty pounds. Ability to travel freely between throughout the district's buildings. Ability to occasionally work with young children in activities that may require stooping, kneeling, and crouching. Ability to climb and work from a step stool, ladder, lift platform, or other equipment that requires balancing skills. Ability to organize and complete tasks efficiently without supervision. Ability to be punctual and maintain a good attendance record. Ability to identify and express maintenance concerns to appropriate district staff. Ability to work cooperatively with others. Ability to maintain a tactful disposition in dealing with administrators, staff, students, parents, and the public.

Spare Bus Driver Duties:
Each contracted spare bus driver shall be contracted to work for five (5) hours per workday. If any contracted spare bus driver works in excess of five (5) hours on any workday, he or she shall document such excess time on a timesheet, which such excess time shall be paid at the regular driving rate or the sit time rate, as applicable. Each contracted spare bus driver shall be placed on the approved bus driver pay schedule set forth under the Negotiated Agreement based on the contracted spare bus driver's years of experience and as otherwise determined by the Superintendent, in his sole discretion. A contracted spare bus driver shall be paid at the regular driving rate if he or she substitutes for the regular van driver. A contracted spare bus driver shall earn seniority in accordance with the Negotiated Agreement in the same manner as regular bus drivers. The regular daily duties of the contracted spare bus drivers shall be to substitute for absent regular bus drivers and/or regular bus drivers who are scheduled to cover field trips. Contracted spare bus drivers shall accompany regular bus drivers on routes to familiarize the contracted spare bus drivers with the routes and the students and to assist the regular bus drivers, as needed. The contracted spare bus drivers shall perform the following additional duties, as directed by the Director of Transportation: Perform shuttle trips for regular bus drivers. Participate in transportation department meetings to pick-up additional driving trips. Assist with seat repairs. Assist with bus maintenance by keeping buses clean, disinfected, and fueled. Perform pre-trip work on spare buses as necessary to meet maintenance requirements. Support the mechanic by moving buses as necessary, including, but not limited to, picking up or dropping off buses at repair shops. Assist with data recording and filing in the transportation office.
