Part-Time / On-Call Job Summary
We are seeking reliable and safety-focused substitute bus drivers to join our transportation team. The Substitute Bus Driver will provide safe and efficient transportation for students, supporting access to the district's academic and extracurricular programs. This is a flexible position ideal for individuals who are dependable, punctual, and interested in making a positive impact in the community. Qualifications - Required High School Diploma Valid New Jersey Driver's License (held for at least 3 years) Strong interpersonal and communication skills Ability to follow instructions and comply with rules and regulations Comfort working with students from PreK through Grade 12 Punctual and reliable; able to learn and follow assigned routes Willingness and ability to obtain a CDL license (training provided) Capable of handling emergency situations safely Ability to work a flexible schedule (morning and afternoon availability) Must pass: Physical examination required for CDL Criminal History Review Sexual Misconduct/Child Abuse Disclosure
Qualifications - Preferred Current CDL license with Passenger and 2-3 years of experience driving a school bus Key Responsibilities Operate the school bus safely and in compliance with all traffic and safety laws Maintain order and enforce bus rules during student transport Follow established schedules and routes Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections to ensure bus safety and cleanliness Report issues (student behavior, delays, accidents, or mechanical problems) to appropriate personnel Ensure students are transported only to authorized stops Support school trips with responsible supervision Adhere to regulations regarding no smoking or eating on the bus Ensure all students are seated and accounted for after each trip Working Conditions Operates within the Transportation Department Drives school buses with seating capacity up to 54 passengers Must be available for morning, afternoon, and/or evening routes 5-hour and 6-hour shifts available Training available for those interested in becoming a certified bus driver Compensation Starting rate:
$30/hour Physical Requirements Must be able to: Climb bus steps Drive for extended periods Lift at least 50 lbs. Use arms/hands for steering and controls Look through mirrors to monitor students Walk through and clean the bus interior
