REPORTS TO : School Business Administrator/Board Secretary, Transportation Supervisor
JOB GOAL : To transport pupils in a safe and efficient manner and perform all activities related to the operation of the school bus.
The Athletic School Bus Driver exists to support the ongoing enrichment of the Berkeley Heights Public School students through the facilitation of bus services. The driver operates the school buses safely under all types of weather conditions, transporting students and other authorized persons to and from athletic events/practices, field trips, and cover scheduled runs when necessary. The driver is expected to work a flexible schedule.
Transports passengers over athletic runs, cover routes to and from school as needed and/or field trips in a safe and timely manner; events and programs may include games, practices, scrimmages, activities, community based instruction, and field trips. Provides safe loading and unloading of all passengers from buses during regular transport and emergency situations. Assesses incidents, complaints, accidents and/or potential emergency situations (e.g., road hazards, medical emergencies, accidents, etc.) to resolve and/or recommend a resolution to the situation). Performs basic first-aid and safety practices. Keeps vehicle in clean working order. Fuels assigned vehicle (e.g., oil, water, fuel, etc.) to maintain the vehicle in a safe operating condition. Monitors students and other passengers during transit to ensure the safe transportation of all passengers. Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspections (e.g., fluid levels, tire pressure, exterior condition, etc.) to ensure the safe operating condition of the vehicle and comply with mandated guidelines. QUALIFICATIONS
CDL with a minimum of air brake plus Passenger and School Bus endorsement a must. Minimum safe driving experience as determined by the board Ability to maintain passenger discipline to ensure student safety and wellbeing and protect against vandalism Successful Criminal History Clearance. Proof of U.S. Citizenship or appropriate employment authorization.
