We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Cost Accountant to join our team in the construction industry. This is a permanent position, responsible for managing financial and cost accounting activities, preparing financial statements, and ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The ideal candidate will have a strong background in contract billing, general ledger, payroll reporting, sales and use tax, and manufacturing accounting. This role is crucial in driving cost reduction strategies, managing annual budgets, and overseeing inventory.
Responsibilities:
Lead the cost accounting process, providing accurate and timely cost information to management for decision making. Manage the preparation and distribution of internal financial statements and reports, maintaining the highest quality, reliability, and accuracy. Oversee contract billing and ensure all financial transactions are properly recorded in the general ledger. Conduct payroll reporting, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant laws and regulations. Manage compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state, and local regulatory laws for financial and tax reporting. Oversee sales and use tax reporting, ensuring accurate and timely submissions. Utilize your expertise in manufacturing accounting to drive efficiency and accuracy. Manage the Bill of Materials (BOM) process, ensuring accurate costing and inventory control. Drive cost reduction strategies and initiatives throughout the organization to enhance profitability. Develop and manage the annual budget process, incorporating business objectives and financial forecasts. Oversee and manage the inventory process, ensuring accurate costing and valuation.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in cost accounting, preferably in the construction industry. Strong knowledge of contract billing, financial statements, general ledger, payroll reporting, GAAP, sales and use tax, manufacturing accounting, and Bill of Materials (BOM). Proven experience in cost reduction and managing annual budgets. Proficient in using accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite. Exceptional analytical skills with a strong attention to detail. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions based on accurate and timely analyses. High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation. CPA certification is a plus.
