Swing Shift Hours: Friday- Sunday 12:30pm - 10:30pm; Thursday on-call shift

Reports to: Shelter Supervisor/Program Director Status: Non-Exempt

As a

Domestic

Violence

Advocate

with Mariposa, you will play a central role in helping our clients access services and resources and take the next steps to wellness. You will use your skills to assist clients in managing and overcoming their difficulties to improve day- to-day functioning and support other members of the team. You will collaborate with professionals within and outside our agency to assure that clients receive the very best care available.

Requirements

Specifically, the

Domestic

Violence

Advocate

will:

• Maintain shelter guidelines and security at all times.

• Support new intakes upon admission to shelter which may include interacting and obtaining information from other agencies (i.e., hospital, law enforcement etc.)

• Maintain confidentiality laws, company policies and procedures

• Demonstrate a trauma informed approach by encouraging a calm atmosphere for clients to feel comfortable and safe

• Answer and respond to the crisis call line (including screening/recording calls, completing intakes, arranging for transportation and/or providing resources for individuals who do not meet shelter criteria)

• Complete all required paperwork including client records, shift logs, inventory tracking, etc. in a timely manner

• Promote positive, cohesive, and respectful relationships between clients and staff

• Complete intake and exit interviews

• Submit referrals to other agencies as needed

• Support clients in identifying internal coping mechanisms and natural supports/assist clients in problem solving skills

• Provide resource assistance to connect clients to needed resources to support stability upon exit from shelter (i.e. obtaining needed identification, application assistance, assistance with court documentation, etc.)

• Assist clients with orienting to shelter upon entry

• Ensure clients have access to basic need items as needed each day

• Help maintain the cleanliness of the shelter by ensuring required tasks are completed each shift

• Maintains competency and proficiency in Domestic Violence training (will complete 15 hours of training each year)

• Performs other job-related duties assigned

• Ability to work a variety of shifts

Physical requirements include the following

• Requires standing, sitting, driving, and walking for prolonged periods of time

• Occasionally lifts and carries items up to 20 pounds

• Requires working under stress in emergency situations

• Requires frequent use of computer

Minimum Qualifications

• Associate's degree plus 2 years' experience in a human service-related field (i.e., social work, psychology, sociology etc.)

• High School Diploma plus 5 years' experience in a human service-related field (i.e., social work, psychology, sociology etc.)

• Work experience in another health-related field will be considered on a year for year basis

• Basic Computer skills

• Willing to have background check

Pay for this position starting at $16

Salary Description

$16-19/hour (include shift diff/holiday)
