The Croft School – Senior Operations Manager (Jamaica Plain)
Start Date: August 2025
About The Croft School
The Croft School is a young independent school in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston. Having opened in Fall 2020, our school currently enrolls 224 students in Preschool through Grade 4. During the 2025-26 school year, we will expand to include Grade 5. Over time, we will grow (one grade level per year) into a 300-student Preschool - Grade 6 school.
We are considered by many families and teachers to represent an exciting new type of school that is ideal for those concerned about the area’s existing public school (inconsistent quality; driven by standardized test outcomes) and private school (elitism; unaffordable; lack of diversity; limited innovation) options.
The Croft School is built around the following core attributes:
- Rigor and Spark
- Student-Centeredness
- Balance
- Strong Relationships
- Outstanding Teachers, Collaborative Improvement
- A Diverse, Inclusive, Anti-Racist Community
Our program includes high-quality math, reading, and writing instruction, innovative project-based learning, age-appropriate opportunities for play and creative expression, frequent enrichment and Spanish courses, and weekly nature explorations or community trips (fieldwork). Further, we seek to provide our families with an exceptional experience built around convenience, community, communication, and partnership.
The Croft School has sister schools in Providence (founded 2018) and the South End neighborhood of Boston (founded 2022).

About The Role
The Croft School: Jamaica Plain is seeking an exceptional Senior Operations Manager to lead and oversee critical non-instructional, non-programmatic aspects of the school. This individual, part of the school’s leadership team, will report to the Head of School.
The role presents a unique opportunity to play a critical role in a young, growing school that is increasing in complexity and scale, yet passionately committed to maintaining a high-quality, personalized experience for our students and families.
Importantly, this role is both a “do-er” and “manager” role. We are a small school. This is a job where the right candidate should expect to roll up their sleeves and “dive in” to hands-on operations work, from trying to fix a broken toilet to entering student information into a database, just as much as they are “managing” operations.
With support from and in partnership with Croft Jamaica Plain’s Head of School and Assistant Head of School, as well as our organization’s Executive Director and Senior Director of Operations, this individual will have a broad array of responsibilities across many functional areas, including the following:
Enrollment Management. The Senior Operations Manager will manage the implementation of improved and streamlined processes used throughout the “lifecycle” of the admissions process.
Facility and Construction Management. The Senior Operations Manager will play a key role in the school’s facility expansion as well as provide both vision and day to day oversight of the current space.
Financial Management. The Senior Operations Manager will be responsible for proper and timely execution of critical school-level financial systems and processes, including purchasing approvals, reimbursement, inventory management, payroll management, vendor management, and budget vs. actual report analysis.
Overseeing Effectiveness and Supporting Implementation of School-Level Operational Systems. The Senior Operations Manager, in partnership with the Head of School and the operations associates, will ensure effectiveness and integrity of all critical school-level operational systems, (e.g., safety protocols, front office protocols, morning drop-off, parking lot management, lunch distribution, snack procurement, attendance protocols). Importantly, this individual will manage the details of the school’s schedule, including the “coverage” assignments for absent team members. This individual will also be responsible for Extended Day billing, attendance, and scheduling.
Student and Family Information and Database Management. The Senior Operations Manager will be charged with ensuring that the systems associated with our student and family data collection, data entry, data analysis, and data integrity are efficient, effective, and non-redundant.
Team Management . The Senior Operations Manager will directly coach and manage one Operations Associate and will indirectly manage all school staff in the execution of operational systems.
Technology Management. The Senior Operations Manager will be the primary liaison between and among our school and our third party technology company on matters related to employee and student technology.
Schoolwide Family Events. The Senior Operations Manager will oversee and execute school wide events, particularly from a logistical perspective, including scheduling, set up, take-down, and more. Senior Manager of Operations will work closely with school leadership on the vision for these events, and with family coordinators on the execution of these events.
In addition to the above areas of work, this individual can expect regular ad hoc projects and tasks to arise in our fast-paced environment. Individuals considering this role should understand its intensity. Given the breadth of responsibilities noted above, work weeks exceeding fifty hours, including occasional evening and weekend work, will not be uncommon.
The ideal candidate will be modeling behaviors that support the kind, inclusive atmosphere that is a cornerstone of The Croft School. In addition, the ideal candidate will be excited to and committed to build strong relationships with our school’s educators, families, and students, as the depth of these relationships are a critical piece of what makes Croft a special place to teach and learn. Further, given that The Croft School is committed to being a self-reflective, ever-improving anti-racist organization, the right candidate should be excited to contribute the school’s related efforts and practices.
