Accounting Specialist – Yakima Federal Savings & Loan
Job Summary
The Accounting Specialist performs advanced accounting functions including reconciliations, wire transfers, loan processing support, and GL review. This position requires strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced banking environment.
Essential Duties
- Perform daily and monthly reconciliations for general ledger, bank, loan, and suspense accounts.
- Process and reconcile employee reimbursements and corporate card transactions, including appropriate GL coding.
- Handle full-cycle accounts payable functions, including complex invoice processing and vendor issue resolution.
- Execute all stages of wire transfers, including setup, verification, release, returns, and compliance screening.
- Manage and maintain Loomis cash processing, including vault balancing, branch cash orders, and mutilated currency handling.
- Support the end-to-end funding of new loans, modifications, and construction draw disbursements.
- Monitor construction loan activity, ensure compliance with draw documentation, and resolve related issues.
- Initiate interbank transfers and balance GL accounts to daily correspondent bank activity.
- Assist in month‑end financial statement preparation and routine reporting for internal stakeholders.
- Maintain and verify payroll‑related journal entries and contribute to broader journal entry processes.
- Research and resolve accounting discrepancies and loan activity exceptions.
- Provide technical guidance and serve as a resource for Accounting Associates.
- Assist with the maintenance and review of activity in the Transfer Management System.
- Provide phone and email support to internal teams regarding accounting processes and policies.
- Rotate with other staff members for phone coverage at the Information Desk.
- Participate in cross‑training, compliance reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Stay informed of relevant regulatory compliance issues through continuous training.
- Uphold and promote the Association's values, mission, and vision.

- Working knowledge of accounting principles.
- Excellent internal and external customer service skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate courteously and professionally.
- Strong Excel skills and familiarity with accounting systems.
- High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Well‑developed organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as a team member.
Qualifications
- A two‑year degree in accounting or a related field is preferred, or 3–4 years of relevant work experience.
- This position is designated as “Sensitive” and requires annual criminal and credit background checks.
- Prior banking experience is a plus.
