Job Summary
This position is for a monitor tech that will be stationed at the nurse's station watching Tele monitors, answering phones and entering doctor's orders. We are not looking for EKG techs. they must have two years' hospital experience.
Position Summary
The Monitor Tech - Unit Secretary plays a dual role, providing both technical monitoring support for patients on cardiac telemetry and clerical/administrative assistance to ensure efficient unit operations. This individual is responsible for continuously observing cardiac rhythms, promptly identifying and reporting arrhythmias, and maintaining accurate patient records and communications for the nursing unit.
Key Responsibilities
Monitor Technician Duties:
- Continuously observe and interpret cardiac rhythms for all monitored patients.
- Recognize and report abnormal rhythms or changes in cardiac patterns to nursing staff immediately.
- Maintain accurate documentation of cardiac monitoring data and rhythm strips per policy.
- Ensure all telemetry equipment is functioning properly; report any malfunctions to appropriate personnel.
- Assist nursing staff with electrode placement and maintenance of telemetry leads.
- Maintain telemetry log and verify patient monitor assignments.
Unit Secretary Duties:
- Serve as the communication hub for the nursing unit, answering phones and relaying messages accurately and promptly.
- Coordinate patient admissions, discharges, and transfers in the electronic health record system.
- Maintain and organize patient charts, reports, and other medical records.
- Assist with physician orders, transcribing them accurately and ensuring timely communication to the appropriate departments.
- Order and maintain unit supplies and equipment as directed.
- Provide clerical support to nursing and medical staff to ensure efficient workflow.
- Greet and assist visitors, patients, and staff in a courteous and professional manner.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience: Previous experience as a Monitor Tech and/or Unit Secretary preferred.
- 2 years Experience in a hospital
- Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through AHA required.
