Position Summary Casa Central's Early Learning Academy provides high‑quality, comprehensive early childhood education services for young children, ages birth to five, and their families.
The Early Head Start Teacher provides effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning, assessment, evaluation and related research for two‑year‑old children. The teacher is responsible for providing developmentally appropriate learning experiences, supervision of children assigned in the classroom, and creating a supportive and positive classroom climate, while ensuring the individual needs of the children are met as mandated by Early/Head Start, COA, federal, state, and local standards. The teacher works in collaboration with parents/families and other professionals to ensure that children are ready for success in kindergarten and beyond.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Lesson Planning:
With the classroom teaching team, facilitate the creation and implementation of group lesson plans. Utilize data from child outcomes, screenings, and IFSPs/IEPs to guide lesson planning for individual children and for the group.
Child Screening & Observation:
Ensure all children in the classroom have high‑quality observations, maintain up‑to‑date documentation in databases (Teaching Strategies GOLD), child education files and portfolios. Implement screenings and assessments, report outcomes, and communicate progress through parent‑teacher conferences and home visits. Support agency's School Readiness goals and track progress toward goals.
Participant Service Delivery:
Serve as co‑leader for the classroom team and provide guidance to children, families, teaching team, volunteers, and other visitors. Individualize for all children, including those with diagnosed disabilities. Implement developmentally appropriate practice and utilize materials from Creative Curriculum. Facilitate an inclusive environment, support social‑emotional development with positive classroom management (Conscious Discipline), maintain classroom equipment, manage inventory, and report needed repairs. Promote teamwork and initiate referrals for children who may benefit from further evaluation, participating in IEP/IFSP meetings and evaluations.
Administrative Tasks:
Submit timely reports such as timesheets, attendance records, home‑visit records, parent conferences, lesson plans, etc.
Performance & Quality Management:
Build positive relationships with agency staff and partners, implement the agency mission, philosophy, and core values. Cultivate a professional and respectful work environment and participate in the agency's Performance Quality Improvement (PQI) structure and process.
Program‑Specific Activities:
Ensure compliance with Early/Head Start Program Performance Standards, federal, state, city, and licensing regulations. Engage in active supervision, honor the program’s Standards of Conduct, respect confidentiality, attend required meetings and trainings (Teaching Strategies GOLD, Creative Curriculum, CLASS), participate in Coaching to Fidelity, and complete an ongoing professional development plan.
Community Outreach:
Support recruitment efforts to ensure the program remains fully enrolled year‑round.
General Requirements Sensitivity to cultural diversity is required. Applicants will undergo pre‑employment screening that includes medical, lift, drug & alcohol testing, and aptitude/skills testing where applicable.
Education and Experience
Infant/Toddler CDA or minimum of AA in ECE with infant/toddler coursework.
Teacher 1: Infant/Toddler CDA; an A.A. degree with Gateways Level 3 Infant/Toddler Credential, required by 08/2024.
Teacher 2: A.A. degree with Gateways Level 3 Infant/Toddler Credential.
Teacher 3: A.A. degree with Gateways Level 4 Infant/Toddler Credential.
Teacher 4: B.A. degree (or higher) with Gateways Level 4 Infant/Toddler Credential.
Teacher 5: B.A. degree (or higher) with Gateways Level 5 Infant/Toddler Credential.
Language Skills Bilingual Spanish preferred.
Computer Literacy & Knowledge Must be computer literate and experienced with Microsoft applications, web‑based and other automated management information systems.
Mathematical Skills Basic mathematical skills are required.
Operating Environment and Working Relationships Ability to work within an interdisciplinary team as a supportive member, establish relationships with families from diverse backgrounds, and possess knowledge of Head Start Program Performance Standards (preferred).
Decision Making Authority Exercises discretion and independent judgment in executing tasks.
People Management Ability to utilize reflective practices and leadership to guide and support staff in the classroom.
Remote Work / Technology Not eligible for remote work. A personal mobile phone is not required, and therefore not eligible for mobile phone reimbursement.
Physical Demands The employee must regularly sit, talk, hear, use hands, lift and carry up to 25 lbs, and perform other duties as described.
Work Environment The work environment is usually moderately noisy. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
