Supplier Quality Engineer
Position Summary
Review and provide input for supplier selection activities including supplier evaluation and quality systems audits. Coordinate supplier process capability programs for new components, processes, assemblies or purchased finished goods.
We are seeking a highly skilled Supplier Quality Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of quality are developed for external suppliers. With close partnership with Supply Chain teams, the Supplier Quality Engineer will manage interactions with suppliers with a focus on quality improvement.
Responsibilities
Develop and manage a robust supplier audit program including maintain a standard audit schedule, cadence, etc. for each supplier.
Devises and implements methods and procedures for inspecting, testing, and evaluating the precision, reliability and accuracy of products and processes of suppliers.
Ensures that project and/or process control documentation is compliant with requirements and/or contracts.
Coordinates with customers and suppliers relating to quality performance, trends, and corrective action. Verifies compliance and effectiveness of the quality system by performing supplier audits and surveys. Initiate programs to improve supplier performance.
Lead supplier development activities geared towards increased implementation of Dock-to-Stock and replenishment programs.
Works with suppliers to refine and enhance products and processes by applying continuous improvement and key lean manufacturing/production principles and techniques to assure quality of goods and services provided.
Will be responsible for ensuring that nonconforming material is dispositioned in a timely manner, in addition to analyzing defect trends in order to initiate appropriate corrective action.
Lead Root Cause/Corrective Action and problem-solving activities for Supplier issues (assist with problem-solving efforts for internal issues). Lead management of Supplier Corrective Action Reports.
Responsible for the specification and validation of inspection tools and gages for suppliers.
Integral participant in all design reviews; reviews and approves all Supplier Quality Requirement Plans (SQR’s) and develops follow-up plans after implementation.
Will perform Quality Systems and Process Audits of current suppliers including reporting, follow-up and closure of non-conformances.
Handle process improvements at supplier facilities.
Assist with internal process and product audits at a regular cadence to ensure compliance with quality requirements.
Prepare reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing quality data. Develop training materials based on this data, and conduct sessions to drive understanding of, and adherence to, the proper quality control activities.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering (preferably Mechanical, Industrial, or Quality Engineering) or other related discipline.
5+ years’ experience as a Supplier Quality Engineer - preferably within manufacturing environment.
Knowledge of and experience with precision machining and/or molding within the plastics or semiconductor industry preferred.
A thorough understanding of use and application of statistical quality assurance methods is required.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to effectively communicate and present information to team members, top management and suppliers.
Ability to effectively apply continuous improvement/Lean Six Sigma principles and techniques to quality and manufacturing functions.
Ability to use standard business software applications and/or specialized data analysis tools.
Proven experience leading functional and cross-functional teams on projects, with demonstrated success in achieving the project goals.
Demonstrated knowledge of ISO9001 (or related) auditing, management, and maintenance. Lead or Internal Auditor Certification preferred.
