Assistant Director of Employer Engagement Reporting to the Executive Director of Student Career Preparedness, the Assistant Director of Employer Engagement is responsible for developing and implementing strategies that connect employers with East Texas A&M University students and alumni. The role oversees employer engagement initiatives, including career fairs, networking events, on-campus interviews, and recruitment partnerships, while ensuring employers have a positive and effective recruiting experience.

This position plays a critical role in advancing East Texas A&M University’s Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) and the University Strategic Plan related to Career Readiness, ensuring students have meaningful opportunities to engage with employers and secure career pathways.

Duties & Responsibilities

Develop and manage a comprehensive employer recruitment strategy, including career fairs, networking events, information sessions, alumni engagement programs, and job shadowing opportunities.

Coordinate on‑campus interviews, Handshake job and internship postings/approvals, and promotion of opportunities to students.

Advise external employers on effective recruiting strategies, branding opportunities, job descriptions, and hiring expectations.

Cultivate and expand partnerships with corporations, non‑profits, government agencies, and alumni to increase career and internship opportunities for students and graduates.

Organize and maintain the annual recruiting calendar, including timelines, deadlines, and processes for employer participation.

Design and manage employer communications and marketing materials, including digital and print outreach, website content, and social media.

Develop and coordinate guest speakers and employer panels for student classes, organizations, and professional development events.

Support new initiatives designed to expand internship opportunities for students.

Align employer engagement strategies and initiatives with institutional goals outlined in the QEP and University Strategic Plan for Career Readiness.

Collect, analyze, and report data for departmental metrics, annual reports, and program assessment.

Monitor employer participation, hiring outcomes, and event impact to improve services and demonstrate return on engagement.

Build collaborative relationships with academic departments, student organizations, and university offices to align employer engagement with institutional goals.

Supervise and mentor student workers and interns as assigned.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Human Relations, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience / Knowledge / Skills: Minimum 3 years of related experience in employer relations, recruiting, career services, or talent management. Experience using career services/recruitment platforms such as Handshake, Symplicity, or 12Twenty. High level of professionalism, hospitality, and networking skills.

Ability to: Build and maintain relationships with employers and campus partners; organize multiple projects and meet deadlines; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Licensing/Professional Certifications: None.

Physical Requirements: None.

Preferred Education, Skills, Experience

Master’s degree in Business Administration, Human Relations, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field.

3–5 years of professional experience in employer relations, recruiting, or career services.

Experience in event planning and coordination.

Previous experience working with corporations, non‑profits, or government agencies related to recruitment and talent development.

Experience with data reporting, program assessment, or outcomes tracking.

Supervisory or student mentoring experience.

Supervision of Others Student workers and interns as assigned, in addition to potential future full‑time staff roles (e.g., Internship Coordinator).
