Position Summary: As the Operations Technology & Automation Engineer you will be responsible for our automation strategy and implementation by designing, programming, simulating, and testing automated processes while assisting with reliability and risk aversion across the enterprise. This role will collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure seamless integration of automation systems and maintain optimal performance and requires continuous learning and adaptation to new technologies and methodologies. This role reports to the Director, Corporate Engineering within the Operational and Engineering Center of Excellence. Essential Functions & Requirements: Prioritizes health and safety by adhering to policies, processes, and always maintaining safe practices Actively reviews practices, workflows and systems to identify opportunities and advises on appropriate interventions for process improvements that impact production and business results Facilitates change management by engaging with cross‑functional teams to foster a culture of system‑based, proactive and automated improvements; provides training and support to employees at all levels to encourage the adoption of new processes and tools Drives knowledge exchange with technology experts (plant resources, engineering solutions, internal/external consultant groups, sister plants, etc.) to increase awareness of potential improvement opportunities Monitors the effectiveness of implemented initiatives and makes necessary adjustments Identifies new technologies and processes that can improve equipment performance and automation Designs and develops advanced automated systems and processes; simulates and tests processes to ensure acceptable functionality Programs, troubleshoots ladder logics and codes automation software solutions Identifies and resolves system malfunctions and inefficiencies; conducts root cause analyses and corrective actions for system failures Continuously monitors and upgrades existing automation systems for improved performance Documents all aspects of the automation process, including development and implementation Provides technical support and training to end‑users Integrates IT and OT systems to ensure seamless communication between different technological layers Creates and maintains project timelines and budgets Evaluates new technologies and tools to enhance automation capabilities; analyzes business processes and equipment end‑to‑end to identify improvements and recommend solutions Develops Manufacturing 4.0 based process control strategies & controller network systems Creates and presents reports on initiatives and their impact to leadership Maintains the ability to travel to facilities as needed, up to 40% Takes on additional duties as assigned to support the team and organization Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science or related field (required) Master's degree in engineering, computer science, or related field (preferred) Experience: 10+ years of proven experience in controls systems, programming and automation (required) Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and project management skills Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders Ability to work collaboratively with cross‑functional teams, drive change and influence others Results‑orientation with the ability to gather, analyze, and interpret information from a variety of sources Ability to see the big picture, while translating details into an organizational perspective Analytical thinking, with the ability to think critically and logically, as well as the ability to work with large sets of data and concisely make sense of them Technical aptitude and a strong understanding of the systems, equipment, and processes at hand, including knowledge of the engineering principles and specific systems used across the organization Strong ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously and effectively, including planning, scheduling, and organizing Strong attention to detail and precision when analyzing data, implementing improvements and documenting results Advanced knowledge of programming languages such as Python, Java, or C++, Structured Text, Open AI Knowledge of and experience with automation software and hardware platforms Knowledge of PLC, HMI, SCADA, and DCS systems – ABB, Honeywell, Siemens, Rockwell, Delta V, Allen Bradley, Ignition, etc. Knowledge of and experience with machine learning and AI applications in automation Strong knowledge in designing and programming automation systems Knowledge of robotics and control systems Familiarity with manufacturing and production processes Understanding of electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems Seniority level
