Position Summary Performs the full range of fitting and fabrication duties, including layout, positioning, and assembly of metal components according to prints, drawings, and specifications. Fitters operate equipment such as forklifts and overhead cranes, ensure quality control through precise measurements, and contribute to both standard and complex metal builds in the shop environment. This position is classified into Fitter 1, Fitter 2, or Fitter 3 based on demonstrated experience, independence, and skill level.

Role Responsibilities

Operate forklifts and overhead cranes.

Read and use a tape measure accurately.

Perform layout and fit‑up of metal components per drawings and cut lists.

Pass welding tests: 3G/FCAW, 1G/GMAW‑MC, and 3G/GMAW‑SC.

Produce high‑quality assemblies aligned with specifications.

Inspect finished work and make necessary adjustments.

Identify and resolve fitting issues during fabrication.

Collaborate with teammates to meet production goals.

Follow all safety guidelines and shop rules.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Fitter 1

1 year of industry experience.

Ability to read process sheets, cut lists, tolerances, and basic prints.

Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to use basic fixtures.

Intermediate math skills.

Problem‑solving skills and ability to work independently on routine tasks.

Works under direct supervision with structured responsibilities.

Fitter 2

All Fitter 1 qualifications plus:

Minimum of 5 years of industry experience.

Ability to fully fit beams, columns, and miscellaneous metals.

Intermediate math including some geometry and trigonometry.

Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and documents.

Ability to mentor and support Fitter 1s.

Works under general supervision and uses independent judgment.

Willingness to support continuous improvement.

Fitter 3

All Fitter 2 qualifications plus:

Minimum of 7 years of industry experience. tags were removed,
