Senior Technical Writer
providing support to the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC/HBD), Theater Battle Control Division. The Theater Battle Control Division manages efforts focused on developing, acquiring, fielding and sustaining programs that support worldwide communications, Battle Management, Command & Control, Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance (C2ISR), Tactical Air Control, Air/Ground Surveillance, Time Critical Targeting, Combat Identification, Radar Imagery, Integrated Air/Missile Defense, and Mobile/Fixed C2ISR Performance, Exploitation & Dissemination Facilities.
This is a full-time position located at Hanscom AFB, Bedford, MA.
Responsibilities
Obtaining, analyzing, and selecting the pertinent information
Determining the most logical and effective sequence of the narrative
Determining the overall length and tone based on the objectives, the medium, and the audience
Writing the material
Consulting on or selecting illustrative material
Preparing the material for publication
Writing technical direction on product announcements, marketing brochures, advertisements, and marketing specifications
Meeting with customer representatives, vendors, system engineers, and program managers to establish technical specifications
Studying drawings, specifications, mockups, and product samples
Creating user documentation for a variety of material, including how-to guides and instruction manuals
Preparing charts, graphs, or forms to go along with rough drafts
Ensuring document contents follow required formats
Writing clear and concise policies and procedures
Ensuring consistency of wording among multiple documents
Creating table of contents and citing sources
Submitting copies to managers for feedback
Maintaining an electronic library or all signed documents and final presentations
Providing updates and different editions as necessary
Requirements
Citizenship: Must be a US citizen
Clearance: Must have and be able to maintain a Secret level clearance
Education: BA/BS degree
10+ years of experience, with at least five years supporting DoD programs
Technical writing experience within the DoD relative to information and/or business systems environment
Ability to work on technical content for learning about, getting started, using, configuring, deploying, integrating, monitoring, tuning, and troubleshooting software systems, products, tools, and services.
Ability to use and learn to use different authoring, development, and design tools such as GitLab, website maintenance, Markdown, Javascript, Figma, and Lucid.
Additionally, knowledge management, information architecture, and content design and content strategy skills are all relevant and applicable to contributing to the mission.
Excellent writing skills and strong command of the English language, including grammar
Strong attention to detail
Ability to work well with other organizations and personnel with disparate backgrounds
Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task
