Staff Nurse - Lung Cancer Screening

Dorset County Hospital is recruiting a registered nurse to work with Dorset's Lung Cancer Screening Service.
The service is a lung cancer screening programme inviting participants aged between 55 and 74 who either smoke currently or have smoked previously for a lung health check.
The NHS long‑term plan published in 2019 established a goal of diagnosing 75 % of people with cancer at an early stage by 2028. This post will support the set‑up and implementation of a lung health screening programme across Dorset.
This is a pivotal role that will support the team in establishing a pan‑Dorset wide Lung Cancer Screening programme by providing administrative support.
Main duties of the job The main duties of the role include:
Assess participants’ eligibility to carry out the national risk assessment
Explain the programme process to patients in an easily understood manner
Manage the participant list and maintain accurate records within Excel and Trust‑wide systems
Communicate with patients to address all enquiries regarding appointment times and procedural issues and ensure they understand the preparation for diagnostic tests or procedures
Work closely with the Lung Cancer Screening team and nurses to ensure clinical patient queries are managed by the clinical team
Liaise with the responsible radiologist, consultants and lead nurse/co‑ordinators to ensure patients are on the correct pathway for follow‑ups
Maintain and update personal data on patient tracker lists
Request CT scans appropriately
Refer relevant participants to the Lung Cancer Nurse Specialist team
Document findings and raise appropriate escalations

Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary / interdisciplinary team
Awareness of relevant national and local targets / NSF frameworks
Evidence of relevant CPD
Awareness of the Clinical Governance agenda
