Responsibilities

Provide professional mental health services to inmates, including formal and informal evaluations, diagnostic assessments, and clinical interventions.

Maintain accurate information system mental‑health needs levels and diagnostic codes.

Deliver group, brief, and individual therapy and crisis intervention, including participation in a 24‑hour on‑call rotation.

Initiate emergency and non‑emergency transfers for inmates with acute mental‑health needs.

Offer clinical direction to non‑clinical staff in mental‑health care and treatment.

Ensure continuity of care by coordinating referrals and documentation with receiving units, facilities, or agencies.

Document all care accurately and timely using handwritten and electronic records.

Monitor treatment progress, listen to inmate concerns, and provide counseling and direction.

Promote safety and security of the clinical and correctional environment through observation and contraband control.

Report safety violations and attend required training, including self‑defense courses.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in counseling, social work, psychology, or marriage and family therapy from an accredited institution.

Current, valid license or permit from the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies, such as Licensed Social Worker, Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, or Psychologist.

Application must include a complete work‑experience section relevant to the position.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s or doctoral degree from a program accredited by CACREP, CSWE, AAMFT/COAMFTE, or APA.

License eligibility as a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, or Licensed Psychologist.

Experience providing mental‑health treatment in a correctional environment.

Required Competencies

Professional competence in mental‑health treatment for inmates.

Ability to participate in 24‑hour on‑call rotations.

Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Work independently and within a multidisciplinary team.

Maintain required registration, permit, or licence.

Demonstrate physical agility, strength, and the ability to handle stressful, potentially violent situations.

Compliance with all security and safety protocols, including defensive tactics and OLEORESIN CAPSICUM exposure.

Willingness to travel and work varied shifts (including nights).

Knowledge of EEO requirements and ability to work with a diverse inmate population.

Conditions of Employment

Successful completion of a background investigation and criminal history check.

Pass required medical screening and drug test.

Must hold a valid driver’s licence and be eligible to operate a state‑owned vehicle.

Present a high‑school diploma or GED.

Voluntary participation in regular COVID‑19 testing and serial testing.

Pass the six‑week Colorado Department of Corrections Basic Training, which includes defensive tactics and written assessments.

Maintain a clean driving record and comply with all traffic laws.

Requirement to have at least 10 years of recent work experience for background processing.
