Mechanical Design Engineer – Building Systems
(Commercial / Residential / Healthcare) – Orlando/Melbourne, FL (Relocation Assistance)

Orlando or Melbourne, Florida (on-site / hybrid depending on project)
Position Summary We are seeking a licensed
Professional Engineer (PE)
in Mechanical Engineering to join our building‑systems design team, working on commercial buildings, residential developments (multi‑family), and healthcare/institutional facilities. The role includes leading mechanical (HVAC, plumbing, pumps, chilled water, etc.) design, mentoring junior engineers, and coordinating across disciplines to deliver projects from schematic through construction documents. Relocation support will be provided for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as the mechanical discipline lead on projects across commercial, residential, and healthcare sectors.
Perform mechanical engineering design: system sizing, load calculations, equipment selection, layouts, specification writing, and coordination of HVAC, plumbing, pumps, cooling towers, etc.
Prepare and review detailed construction documents (Revit, AutoCAD MEP) and ensure compliance with code (IBC, ASHRAE, Florida Building Code) and internal standards.
Interface with architects, structural engineers, electrical/MEP designers, contractors, permitting jurisdictions, and other project stakeholders.
Mentor and guide junior mechanical engineers/designers; review their work and ensure quality control/QA.
Participate in project scheduling, budgeting, staffing, resource allocation, and client interface as needed.
Act as Engineer‑of‑Record (where applicable) and support permitting and certification processes.
Stay current with mechanical design trends, building codes, simulation/modeling tools, and best practices.
Provide relocation coordination and onboarding support for moves to Florida (if relocating).
Required Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) from an ABET‑accredited institution.
Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in Florida or ability to obtain within 6 months.
At least 6‑10 years’ experience in mechanical design for building systems (commercial, residential/multi‑family, and/or healthcare).
Demonstrated experience with HVAC design (chilled water, pumps, cooling towers, DX systems, central plants), plumbing systems, and related mechanical building infrastructure.
Proficiency with building‑design tools such as Revit, AutoCAD MEP, and mechanical calculation software.
Strong knowledge of building codes/standards (IBC, ASHRAE 90.1/62, Florida Building Code, etc.).
Excellent communication (verbal & written), client‑facing skills, ability to work collaboratively across disciplines.
Proven ability to lead and mentor a design team, manage workload and meet deadlines.
Willingness to relocate to/within Florida (relocation assistance provided).
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in healthcare/institutional projects (hospitals, clinics, labs) is a strong plus.
Experience in residential/multi‑family design or mixed‑use projects.
Experience leading projects end‑to‑end (from conceptual design through construction administration).
Additional licenses (other states) or LEED credentials.
Familiarity with site visits, commissioning or field‑review experience.
