Who We Are Point of Beginning, Inc., established in 2001, is a multi‑faceted civil engineering, landscape architecture, land surveying, materials testing, and geotechnical investigation firm based in Stevens Point, Green Bay, and Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. We are a talented and experienced staff of 45 including professional engineers, professional land surveyors, professional landscape architects, field crews, CADD technicians, and integral administrative staff. In 2023, we became 100% employee owned.

Why We Need You Two years ago, we launched a new division adding Geotechnical Services to our scope of work. A robust workload has led us to search for new team members to continue the growth and success of this division. We are seeking an experienced, motivated, organized, and driven Geotechnical Engineer for our office in Stevens Point, Wisconsin.

What You Will Do The successful candidate will be responsible for applying soil‑mechanics principles to the design and construction of civil engineering projects. The role involves supervising field sampling activities, installing geotechnical instrumentation, analyzing field and laboratory data, conducting computational modeling, developing engineering recommendations, preparing reports, addressing construction issues, and communicating with clients.

Site investigation: plan, organize, and oversee field studies, including soil and rock drilling and sampling, in‑situ testing, and groundwater monitoring.

Laboratory analysis: coordinate and review laboratory testing of soil and rock samples to determine engineering properties such as strength, permeability, and physical characteristics.

Engineering analysis & design: conduct complex geotechnical analyses and use specialized software to evaluate bearing capacity, settlement, slope stability, and lateral earth pressures.

Technical reporting: prepare comprehensive geotechnical reports, proposals, and design specifications that summarize findings and provide recommendations to clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies.

Construction support: provide on‑site engineering support during construction to monitor earthworks, verify compliance with design specifications, and address unforeseen geotechnical issues.

Project management: develop project budgets, timelines, and scope.

Collaboration: work closely with other engineers (civil, structural, environmental), architects, and project stakeholders to integrate geotechnical considerations into overall project design.

Requirements

1–3 years of experience in geotechnical engineering.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.).

Familiarity with geotechnical engineering software.

Strong work ethic, leadership qualities, and ability to work independently.

Ability to multitask and manage projects.

Regular, predictable attendance.

Successful completion of background checks.
