Lead Automation Field Specialist (Downstream Chemicals) - Sugarland, TX
Job Description Summary
This Lead Field Specialist role within Downstream Chemicals Service Delivery organization will provide technical support to our key customers focused on delivering Automation technologies and optimizing related applications across North America. In this role, you will be viewed internally and externally as a field subject‑matter expert for Automation technologies, applications and disciplines tied to refining and petrochemical business segments.
Responsibilities
Lead Automation technical support efforts across existing and new Downstream key accounts within North America to enable flawless execution through pre‑planning, job execution, and post‑job analysis.
Work closely with Service Delivery, Sales and Technology teams to design technical job programs, including risk mitigation plans, to meet customer objectives and maximize revenue potential.
Provide on‑demand support for automation applications in refineries, including installation of new applications, troubleshooting, and technical recommendations for existing applications.
Build trusting relationships and interface with key customers at both corporate and field facilities.
Identify and collaborate with field teams to drive projects and innovative solutions that bring value to customers.
Participate and provide technical leadership in industry forums.
Perform annual technical audits and health checks on all assigned accounts.
Support Operations, Technology and Sales for the automation portfolio, including rollout and application of new technologies in the field.
Provide technical presentations for customers and field personnel.
Perform job analysis to understand application hazards and incident.
Work on field incidents related to products/services and participate in incident investigations when required.
Take on special projects, including product‑line specific responsibilities, as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline (Chemical Engineering preferred).
5+ years of industrial water treatment experience with 3+ years in an automation discipline.
Solid understanding of water and process‑related automation technologies, industry standards, and field/operations/application support experience.
Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
Excellent communication skills – able to convey complex technical concepts clearly to all levels.
Availability to travel up to 50% of the time.
Provide technical mentorship to others.
Availability on call outside normal business hours.
Strong project management skills – plan, coordinate, and deliver projects successfully.
