Senior Recruiting Manager at The Axel Group, LLC The Axel Group is seeking a Senior Accountant to join our client’s team out of Monmouth County, New Jersey! This New Jersey–based recycling and waste management company operates a large, state-of-the-art materials recovery facility that processes construction, demolition, and bulky waste. The firm specializes in diverting reusable materials from landfills by separating and repurposing items such as wood, metal, concrete, and plastics. With a focus on environmental sustainability, it provides both residential and commercial recycling services, supported by a modern fleet and advanced sorting technology. The company is known for its strong regional presence, commitment to responsible waste handling, and dedication to helping clients meet green building and sustainability goals.
The Senior Accountant will play a key role in our client’s accounting team. This position is heavily focused on the month-end close process — ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and completeness of financial reporting. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical accounting skills, a hands‑on approach, and the ability to work independently in a fast‑paced environment.
Responsibilities
Prepare and post journal entries including accruals, prepaids, and other adjusting entries
Perform balance sheet account reconciliations, including cash, fixed assets, prepaid expenses, and accrued liabilities
Reconcile bank and credit card accounts monthly and resolve discrepancies promptly
Maintain and update supporting schedules and workpapers for all key balance sheet accounts
Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies during the close process
Ongoing / Non–Close Period Responsibilities
Prepare and roll forward close files to ensure readiness for the next month‑end cycle
Assist in balance sheet and P&L variance analyses, identifying and explaining significant fluctuations
Support external financial audits, providing documentation, reconciliations, and responses to auditor inquiries
Participate in process improvement initiatives to streamline reconciliations and enhance reporting efficiency
Collaborate cross‑functionally with operations and finance leadership to support business initiatives and reporting needs
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA or CPA‑track preferred
3 – 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a corporate or multi‑entity environment
Strong understanding of GAAP accounting principles and month‑end close procedures
Proficient in Excel and accounting software (experience with ERP systems preferred)
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
