Leidos
Trajectory Analyst
– Leidos Leidos is a leading technology organization delivering innovative solutions for defense, space, cyber, and commercial customers. Our Hypersonics Systems Division seeks a Trajectory Analyst to support the Multi‑Service Advanced Capability Hypersonics Test Bed (MACH‑TB) flight test program. Position Overview
The Trajectory Analyst works with the Lead Trajectory Analyst to model launch vehicle trajectories, conduct flight safety analysis, and develop analysis methodology for hypersonic test flight configurations. You will directly influence mission design and ensure compliance with range safety and public risk requirements. Primary Responsibilities
Develop and optimize 3‑DOF and/or 6‑DOF trajectory simulation models. Develop CONOPS for integration with mission operations and flight software. Perform engineering approximations for performance. Conduct Monte Carlo and probabilistic analyses to assess off‑nominal trajectories, range safety, circular error probability, and expected casualty. Provide systems engineering with optimizations that balance performance and safety while respecting critical system constraints. Minimum Qualifications
B.S. degree in Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent technical field from an ABET‑accredited institution. 2+ years of trajectory analysis experience or equivalent education. Strong fundamentals in flight mechanics, dynamics, and aerospace vehicle simulation. Strong fundamentals in statistical and probabilistic analysis. Familiarity with 3‑DOF/6‑DOF trajectory model development and optimization. Experience with tools such as POST, OTIS, TTK, RRAT, TAOS, STK Astrogator, or Copernicus. Experience with Monte Carlo or probabilistic analysis routines and data analysis. Ability to evaluate complex systems and navigate detailed requirements. Effective oral and written communication skills. Collaborative team player with meticulous attention to detail. U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a DoW Secret clearance. Preferred Qualifications
Experience developing and optimizing 3‑DOF/6‑DOF trajectory models. Experience with trajectory analysis tools listed above. Quantitative risk assessment experience, including debris risk modeling. Hypersonic trajectory modeling experience. Knowledge of launch licensing processes and regulations (e.g., FAA Part 450). Understanding of NASA and DoD range safety and operational requirements (e.g., RCC‑319, 321, 323, 324, 326). Experience with explosive modeling and estimation. Proficiency building analysis toolchains and scripts (e.g., MATLAB, Python). Pay Range
