Peer Recovery Specialist – Recovery – Full-Time
Summary
Work with the team to expand access to MAT through outreach and education, supporting individuals and families in obtaining and maintaining stable housing, education, jobs, and comprehensive health care, case management, and chemical health treatment. Under the supervision of the IOP Manager, provide excellent customer service in all functional areas, regularly interacting with clients, NACC staff, partners, and the community. Offer peer recovery services before, during, and after substance use disorder treatment to help clients connect with resources that support recovery, sharing your personal recovery experience to offer reassurance, reduce fears, answer questions, support motivation, and convey hope.
Duties & Responsibilities
Provide recovery resource navigation and advocacy for clients via one‑on‑one or group support.
Explore resources that support recovery and are available to clients in the community.
Provide education, advocacy, and mentoring through self‑disclosure of personal recovery experiences.
Support.
Assist clients in accessing resources to obtain housing, employment, education, and advocacy services.
Provide nonclinical recovery support to assist the transition from treatment into the recovery community.
Assist new intakes with direction and provide guidance.
Maintain positive public relations with referring agencies and businesses in the community.
Locate appropriate staff members and/or supervisor to respond to client needs when necessary.
Perform light documentation; enter data in the electronic health record system.
Possess a working knowledge of confidentiality issues.
Perform other related duties as assigned by management.
Supervisory Responsibilities This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent education/experience. At least one year in recovery from substance use disorder, experience in a non‑profit and healthcare setting, and preferred experience in street outreach or working within the local Native American community.
Current credential from the Minnesota Certification Board, the Upper Midwest Indian Council on Addictive Disorders, or the National Association for Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors. A tribal nation credential may also be acceptable if demonstrating skills in ethics, boundaries, advocacy, mentoring, education, and recovery support with ongoing supervision by an alcohol and drug counselor.
Proof of current COVID‑19 vaccination required.
Computer skills: spreadsheet software (Excel), word processing software (Word), electronic mail software (Outlook), and electronic medical record software.
Successful completion of a DHS background check and ability to work in a diverse culture.
