Job Description: Pay Range: $25.16hr - $26hr
The Phlebotomist is responsible for performing venipunctures, labeling, and handling specimens following established laboratory procedures.
This role requires attention to detail, accuracy, and a commitment to maintaining specimen integrity and patient comfort.
The individual must comply with safety and regulatory standards while demonstrating strong communication and organizational skills.
Responsibilities
Perform blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging samples, recording maintenance data, decontamination, and updating patient information.
Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture or other specimen collection processes to patients.
Demonstrate proper technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
Fully understand all physician orders.
Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes accurately.
Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by the test order.
Verify test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
Package specimens for transport while maintaining integrity and proper temperature.
Follow procedures specific to the required transport protocol.
Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations at all times.
Attend annual departmental trainings.
Answer telephone inquiries and provide laboratory results as appropriate.
Requirements
Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment (as required in some states).
Minimum of 6 months’ work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
