Senior Controls Engineer

This position requires a general robot and welding specialist capable of working independently and as a team. The position will be based out of North America (NA) and will be the liaison between the corporate Manufacturing Engineering & Technology (MET) final assembly core competency team (CCT) and the assigned regional NA Clean Air (CA) facilities. This position will be responsible for the launch and production support of robotic and manual MIG weld cells and the tooling integration and programming associated with this equipment.
Responsibilities
Participate in new program launches or continuous improvement activities within NACA.
Technical support for NA Manufacturing Engineering & Technology (MET) final assembly team.
Support for development and feasibility reviews regarding:
Design of product
Design of equipment, tooling and manufacturing process
Weld process development
Develop and optimize robot programming (Motoman and/or Fanuc) to specifications (cycle time, quality)
Develop and optimize welding programs and parameters (Miller, Fronius)
Setting up launch processes, fixtures and equipment within regional NACA facilities.
Fine tuning of tooling fixtures based on measurement reports.
Optimize process and fixtures according to capital and tooling investment.
Support first startup of production.
Troubleshoot and support production issues
Support process optimization and standardization effort in close collaboration with MET CCT team.
Identify and implement manufacturing process improvement (performance, scrap, availability).
Support equipment and fixture runoff at supplier or NA Tenneco facilities
Understand and assist with:
Robot, leak testing, manual welding equipment.
Error proofing
Weld cut and etch procedures
Gages
Ability to develop and conduct training within NACA. For example:
Robot programming
Fixture integration
Welding parameter setup.
Welding quality inspection
Required Skills
Experience working with equipment and tooling suppliers.
Proficiency with Fanuc or Motoman robots, arc welding experience preferred.
Knowledge of robot offline programming and simulation is a plus.
Proficiency with PC applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and flow charting software.
Knowledge and understanding of welding, Miller and Fronius preferred.
Knowledge of manufacturing process development, fixture design, tooling/gage design, and equipment design.
Controls and automation knowledge. Hands on expertise is a plus.
Hands on technical knowledge of after treatment devices, mufflers and pipe bending is a plus
Ability to travel 25-30% in support of job function (NACA facilities, suppliers etc.) Some International travel required.
Required Experience
3 years of related robot, mechatronics or welding experience
Bachelors or Associates degree in related robot, mechatronics, or welding technologies.
