About The Role The Mobility Simulation & Planning (MSP) Platform team builds the systems that power pricing and incentive budget planning across Uber's global marketplace. As part of this team, you'll help design and scale the core platform that drives billions in marketplace spend decisions, directly influencing rider affordability and driver earnings. You'll collaborate with Product, Science, and Operations to solve complex technical challenges offering you a unique opportunity to grow as a software engineer while making a measurable business impact at global scale.
What You Will Do
Partner with Engineering, Product, and Operations to define requirements, design data models, and deliver reliable production solutions.
Design and build scalable, efficient data pipelines and frameworks to power large-scale decision systems and model infrastructure.
Drive improvements in data quality, reliability, and observability, ensuring data systems scale with Uber’s business needs.
Lead initiatives to modernize data workflows from data orchestration (Airflow, Temporal) to distributed processing (Spark, Ray, etc.).
Mentor engineers and contribute to establishing best practices for data design, governance, and performance.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
4+ years of experience in data engineering or backend development
Strong SQL and data modeling skills
Hands‑on experience with distributed data frameworks (Spark, Flink, Ray, Beam, etc.)
Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python, Go, or Java, etc.)
Experience building scalable ETL pipelines and working with modern data infrastructure (Hive, Presto, BigQuery, Snowflake, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications
6+ years of experience designing and operating large-scale data systems in production
Deep understanding of data warehousing, system performance, and optimization
Proven ability to drive complex projects, influence cross-functional teams, and mentor peers
Self‑driven and passionate about scalability, automation, and system efficiency
Familiarity with workflow orchestration frameworks (Airflow, Temporal, etc.) is a plus
Compensation & Benefits Base salary ranges (USD): New York, NY – $198,000 – $220,000 per year San Francisco, CA – $198,000 – $220,000 per year Seattle, WA – $198,000 – $220,000 per year Sunnyvale, CA – $198,000 – $220,000 per year All US locations: eligible for Uber's bonus program, equity award, and additional compensation.
