Role Summary Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies is building a best‑in‑class data platform that empowers the entire organization to make data‑driven decisions. We seek engineers who excel at Innovation at Scale and are passionate about solving challenging technical problems. As a Senior Data Engineer, you will take ownership of the design and implementation of complex, scalable ELT pipelines and data transformation logic. You will architect data models that enable self‑service analytics and serve as a thought leader in driving data quality and engineering best practices within the data community.
Responsibilities
Architect data models and schemas that enable self‑service analytics and ensure data accuracy and consistency across the organization.
Lead the design, build, and maintenance of scalable ELT pipelines and analytics workflows using advanced tools (Spark, dbt, SQL).
Champion data quality through validation processes, monitoring frameworks, and automated testing.
Develop and optimize complex Python and SQL‑based transformation code to process and curate data.
Monitor and improve the performance and reliability of data pipelines and platform infrastructure.
Partner with platform engineers to integrate new tools, technologies, and frameworks into the data ecosystem.
Serve as a mentor and technical leader within the data engineering community.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, a relevant technical field or equivalent practical experience.
Expertise in Python, Spark, dbt, and SQL for data transformation and pipeline development.
Experience with modern cloud data platforms, including Databricks, Snowflake, and Google BigQuery.
Proficient in data modeling principles and schema design for analytics.
Proficient in scalable data pipelines on cloud platforms, preferably AWS, GCP, Azure.
Experience deploying and maintaining scalable software, reliability, testing, and monitoring.
Preferred Qualifications
5+ years of experience in data engineering or analytics engineering.
Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and CI/CD workflows for data engineering projects.
Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform highly preferred).
Experience with any data quality, data security, and monitoring initiatives.
Experience with a modern data ingestion tool like Fivetran.
Pay Disclosure Salary Range for Palo Alto, California based applicants: $132,100 - $165,100 USD. Salary Range for California (Irvine) based applicants: $121,500 - $151,900 USD. Compensation is determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law.
