Research Scientist - Synthetic Chemistry Base pay range: $95,000.00/yr - $110,000.00/yr

Adesis Inc. is a subsidiary of Universal Display Corporation, a global leader in organic light emitting diodes. Within our OLED Chemistry organization, we engage in research and development of new materials for use in the fabrication of OLED devices.

Our R&D footprint encompasses almost 100,000 square feet of state‑of‑the‑art laboratory and manufacturing space in two U.S. locations – New Castle and Wilmington, DE, centrally located in the Mid‑Atlantic biotech/pharmaceutical hub.

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Scientist with deep expertise in synthetic organic chemistry to advance OLED technology. This role centers on the design, modeling, and synthesis of innovative organic and organometallic compounds tailored for high‑performance OLED applications.

Responsibilities

Design and Synthesis: Develop innovative organic and organometallic molecules using advanced synthetic methodologies to meet specific performance criteria for OLED devices.

Material Characterization: Investigate and analyze the photophysical, electrochemical, and thermal properties of synthesized compounds to assess suitability for OLED applications.

Collaborative Development: Work closely with multidisciplinary teams of chemists, physicists, and engineers to optimize molecular structures and synthetic routes for scalability and device integration.

Innovation and Problem Solving: Apply deep knowledge of synthetic organic chemistry to solve complex challenges in material stability, efficiency, and color purity.

Technology Advancement: Contribute to the development of next‑generation OLED materials through continuous innovation and rigorous research.

Laboratory Conduct and Documentation Standards: Ensure accurate documentation of experiments, maintain a clean and safe lab environment, and uphold responsible laboratory conduct.

Required Qualifications & Essential Skills

PhD in Chemistry with 2+ years of industrial synthetic organic chemistry experience

In-depth understanding and proven experience with the synthesis and characterization of organic and/or organometallic compounds

Demonstrated experience with multi‑step organic synthesis and/or organic synthesis methodology

Understanding of organic and organometallic reaction mechanisms

Knowledge of modern analytical techniques (HPLC, GC, MS, NMR, UV) and instrumentation for isolation and identification of organic compounds

Experience with basic computer software and internet applications including MS Office, ChemDraw, e‑notebook, and LIMS

Strong organizational skills, keen attention to detail, and ability to prioritize projects and meet deadlines

Ability to work independently and proactively with minimal direction

Ability to perform and succeed in a multi‑disciplinary team environment

Effective oral and written communication skills with peers and management

Analytical problem‑solving ability and a proactive approach to resolution

Track record of accuracy and thoroughness

Insightful understanding of business needs and translation into value‑added research activities for OLED Chemistry
