Macdonald & Company is seeking a Senior Accountant - Property to join a vertically integrated real-estate development, investment and management firm in Baltimore. The Senior Property Accountant will be responsible for day-to-day accounting duties for a dedicated commercial real estate portfolio, including maintenance of the general ledger, preparation of monthly and quarterly financial reporting packages, supporting distributions and capital calls, and assisting with operating budget completion.
Responsibilities
General Ledger Management : Maintain the general ledger system and reconcile accounts, create journal entries and adjustments to ensure accuracy and completeness, and maintain appropriate supporting schedules in Excel.
A/P Processing : Ensure A/P coding accuracy and timeliness for select properties, working with the Asset Management team on coding as needed. Ensure all real estate tax and insurance payments are made timely to avoid penalties; work with the A/P team to ensure utility payments are complete and current.
Fee Calculations : Calculate monthly management and other fees in accordance with governing documents and ensure properly reflect in the financial statements.
Financial Reporting : Prepare and analyze financial statements during the month end close, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements. Ensure adherence to deadlines, accuracy and compliance with accounting policies/standards and formats requested by partners.
Financial Analysis : Conduct financial analysis to support decision-making processes. Provide insights on key financial metrics, trends, and performance indicators.
Cash Management : Prepare accurate and timely monthly bank reconciliations, enter wires and support manager in cash management activities for assigned properties.
Lease Administration and Accounts Receivable : Work closely with Lease Administration and Asset Management teams to review lease data for accuracy and understand key lease terms, and ensure accurate financial billing, accounting and expense reconciliations. Coordinate on tenant inquiries and account reconciliations as needed.
Investor Distributions/Capital Calls : Prepare calculation support for the monthly and/or quarterly capital calls and distributions to investors/partners.
Audit and Tax Process : Assist with year-end package preparation for external auditors and tax preparers, and reviewing audits/returns for accuracy.
Budget Process : Assist in preparation of operating and capital budgets; coordinating with Asset Management to ensure they have information to make informed budgeting decisions.
Business Partnership : Build a positive relationship with internal and external business partners; work to identify and resolve challenges, collaborate, support budget and other process initiatives and efforts, and be recognized as a trusted advisor and partner.
Process Improvement : Provide feedback on opportunities for process improvement, efficiency enhancements and strengthening internal controls. Support the implementation of best practices to streamline workflows and increase productivity.
Other : Portfolio specific responsibilities as required.
Experience and Qualifications
BS/BA degree in accounting or finance required
4-6 years of property accounting experience required; lease admin experience preferred
Experience with retail shopping centers preferred
Strong Microsoft Office skills required, including Excel, Word and Outlook
Yardi experience strongly preferred
Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, verbal and written communication skills
